Is Warhammer Online better than WoW?

Question is, how good is WAR's group PvE? That will only be shown with time. So far, changes like the public quests, open parties have been quite positive. Oh and, one HUGE change over WoW - CLASS SPECIFIC LOOT! So you never get yet another +damage mail chest nobody wants. ;)

Definitely the single-player PvE line (quest chains etc) is very good - great content/design, wonderful lore, good progression.

The one last thing I didn't mention which is a HUGE thing for me, is the class mechanics. A lot of classes have "orthogonal" abilities, such as eg the goblin shaman, the more healing spells you cast, the better your damage spells get, and vice versa. Or the warrior priest, who can only recharge "mana" through doing melee abilities, which puts him firmly in the role of frontline healer. Similarly, the bright wizard/sorceress have a delicate balance between going with full turbos and possibly even killing themselves but pushing out enormous amounts of damage, to reigning it in and doing more moderate damage.

Classes as a result are a lot more dynamic, there is no "stand at the back and heal", or "get behind the mob and stab", most classes have more to play with than just that.

I have to say I wasn't very happy with the mechanic changes I read about in WotLK, but a friend of mine in the beta says they don't seem to have a detrimental effect.

Wraith will start to be the death of WoW, IMO. Blizzard are making some terrible decisions with the game mechanics, and its going to come back and bite them in the ass.

The dumbing down beggars belief, they really are appealing to the lowest common denominator. I'll still be buying the expansion, as my mates are, but I expect to start seeing dwindling subs.

Lol it's way more fun than BC and is bringing WoW up by a big level. I can only wave bye bye to failhammer when Wraths here :D

Prime example of fanboyism. You tried to be reasonable in one of your posts, but you couldnt keep it up.

I assume you are Beta testing WOTLK?

Do you have any experience of Pre TBC WoW?, Molten Core, Blackwing Lair etc? 40 man raids?

A friend who I did everything up until the end of Naxxramus (same guild) is in the beta and says it's fantastic.

Did he like TBC too? If so, blizzard could probably poop on a disk and hed install it ;) hehe

but nah seriously, thats all fair and good. But Colin seems to just spout out crap that comes across as being so biased. Its almost as if warcraft is his kid getting bullied at school or something

Nah I don't think he did, then again neither did I. ;)

Is it a more mature crowd playing War?

Have seen much less evidence of manners, group etiquette and common decency in WAR than the last MMO I played which was EQ2. Most people seem to be out for themselves and I've had very little sense of realm comradery so far. Scenario chat has been pretty bad a couple of times with people bitching about their teammates in the most unconstructive and obscene ways.

Can see guilds and social groups becoming very insular simply because there are so many jerks in the community that if you keep groups open you're bound to get one or two joining at some point.

It's not all bad though, most people are alright Just seems to be more bad eggs than I'm used to.

If Warhammer feels like WoW in 2005, why did i throw my copy of Warhammer in the bin?

Surely, the answer to that is the same reason why I threw my copy of WoW in the bin. Different people, different tastes?

Or is that too polite and non-argumentative an answer for these forums of late? :)

All this throwing stuff in the bin, wow, goddam, what a crap game, i'm gonna sling the piece of crap in the bin. Yeah trash that game goodstyle like.

It will be funny when Digital download is the norm.

"gaddam i' threw that crap piece of game in the delete bin. I deleted it goodstyle like. Then i formatted my Hard drive and reinstalled my OS just to make sure that goddam game was gone "

Bear in mind things have changed a LOT since EQ2. The audience for MMOs is much wider thanks to WoW, and that brings a lot of douchebags along as well (cf, other posts on this thread ;) )

I've been playing mostly on RP servers in WAR and I'd say 70% of the people I've met, on both sides, were in character to some degree, and about 90% were under the general label of "not jackasses". YMMV, but it's a far better experience than WoW has been for the last 2-3 years. Going to an RP server is a generally good filter against kids.

In this case, I am assuming that throwing it in the bin is a metaphor.

I tried this, but i found it was also a good filter against PVP :(

It has nothing to do with different tastes because my taste in an MMO is PVP (Which is what War is) If War was as smooth as WoW i would love it, but the fact is the game feels auwfull. Or do you mean some people like poorly optimized games and some don't?

Oh and i bet you didn't throw wow in the bin the day you bought it lol.

Now, I could be wrong here, but now I get the impression you are just being argumentative for the sake of arguing.

Its obviously got everything to do with different tastes. Its just like how some people like 1 first person shooter, but dont like another, despite them both being top titles. (in my case, I loved BF1942, but didnt like BF2. Liked CoD4, but didnt like counterstrike)

My taste in MMOs is PvP too, hence my top 2 MMOs being UO and Daoc. I'm loving WAR at the moment and have done for 9 months now. Maybe I am just more tolerant than some, maybe I am just a sucker for an "awful" game, maybe despite over 30 years of gaming I just dont know a bad game when I see one, maybe old age has dulled my reflexes and eyesight and I cant see the terrible thing in front of me. Who knows.

No , I admit, I didnt throw wow in the bin the day I bought it, in fact I have never actually thrown a game in the bin as there are much more constructive things that can be done with a game you dont like. I was using the term in the metaphorical sense.

Either way, I get the impressive that this thread (and indeed these whole forums of late) is just a bunch of people arguing just for the hell of it, god only knows why, theres a lot of far better things to do in life.

Personally I am stepping out of the WAR v <insert game of arguments choice> arguments because I've had about enough of people who have to continually harp on negatively about other peoples choices of game, taking every opportunity and thread they can to post about it (that goes for both sides of the fence). Enjoy the game you like and be a little less obsessed with what other people are playing/liking/disliking imo.

/signing off
