Is your 20p coin worth £50?

ther are only 2500 or so special 20p pieces iirc
and considering about a thousand or so have gone through on ebay alone in the last year or so I would emagine the likley-hood of you having a special one now and not knowing it are rare.

bullit

I saw it yesterday when I was going through my change from Morrisons and thought it was odd that the writing around the edge was so large and no date.

so far a few posters said they have one or two, where are the pics?

As I said, I am at work, and my wallet is at home, how do you expect me to take a pic?

What, like most people did with the George best £5 notes
They were fetching £20-£25 when they first were on the market

And are now worth £8-£10 if you are lucky ;)

There's only so many collectors interested in faulty 20p pieces these days. I'd say get rid of it now - you may get around £100 if you are lucky.

Difference is the George Best notes were meant to be released. But meh, I am no expert lol I have better things to do that collect coins xD

Is it bad that I haven't handled actual cash in so long (we're talking years) that I didn't even know a new 20p existed? My mates call me The Queen lol :o

As has been said about 4 times already.....

"The London Mint Office, a private company specialising in unusual coins, is offering anyone who finds one £50 - 250 times their legal value - in the hope of selling them to collectors for an even higher price."

The royal mint (that made them) are having nothing to do with offering £50 for them. The London mint are a specialist company in Coins.

Again...

There's the The London Mint (a shop in London) - and they're onyl offering £50 to the first 10,000.
And the The Royal mint (the government based coin producing place)

(and even some websites are getting their reporting on it wrong)

OK.

How is this not possible, tbh? LOL Debit card, a wallet full of credit cards and, if I'm pushed, a cheque book and pen in the car. I've not needed cash in years lol :)

Your friends dont talk about money to you? And you use a card for buying small things in the shop?

Well I've never had a mate say "Ooh! You seen this new 20p piece? :D", no - we're blokes  And yes, I use my cards for *everything*. If they won't take a card, I pay by cheque. The likes of Tesco are so desperate to keep custom they'll let you buy a 10p mix on your card never mind a couple of quid's worth of drink and a paper or whatever :p

If you really want a photograph of one I'll get one this afternoon.
A work colleague of mine has one.
I was telling him about the story, trying to describe how he could identify the coin and he suddenly said "What, like this?"

Low & behold - he has one.

He's already registered at the site which is paying £50 for the coin, obviously no obligation to sell.
I'm trying to convince him he maybe should keep it a little while - minting errors just so rarely happen I think this coin will probably be worth more than £50 to him.

Here is a picture of the one that my colleague has:
