Is your Boss your friend?

My boss is a lady actually, and we get on Ok, but I just can't see myself actually getting on like friends at any point. She does does my head in with some of the things she says.

Depends how far up the hierarchy I count as my boss. My supervisor, sure. He trained me and he's a top bloke. The 3 assistant managers on site, yes. I get on well with them. The GM, yes. He's well travelled and very knowledgeable about ancient Greek and Roman history, subjects that interest me. I could enjoy a pot of tea and some talk with him. Above that level, no. There's too much of a gap - I don't know them, they don't know me and the huge disparity in income puts us in different worlds.

I've been lucky with bosses over the years. I can count the ones I really didn't get on with on my thumbs.

Yes my boss is a goof mate, also my neighbur, we go pub a few times a year and beer festival, doesnt really treat anyone in work like his employees though, were all mates that just work together.

I regularly spend out of work time with OcUK staff, through there own choice.

I'm not sure that is really a good measure, especially in a small company. Wanting to be on the good side of the main boss is a lot different to being friends with them. :)

How many ex-OcUK staff are permabanned from here for example? Were they your friends too?

In my previous job the GM was cool enough, nice guy to talk to and have a laugh with but understandably he was always quite busy so didn't have that much time. The other managers were a bunch of ***** though, especially the health and safety manager.

Yeah, my boss is pretty cool. Although I think a big part of the reason is that he isn't like any of the bosses of people I know, which I suppose helps. Spent a fair bit of time at his house, BBQs and the like and have been invited to family events such as his daughter's christening. We're such good friends that there have been occasions when we've nipped to his house at lunch time and I'm the one that ends up brewing up! :p

My current boss, just about, we do get on well, but other than after work drinks I don't think I'd be likely to see him out of work, same goes for almost everyone in my department except my boss's line manager though.

My old boss I got on with probably slightly better, have seen him a fair few times since leaving, but we're not exactly the best of friends.

My line manager is my mate - has been for years. Coming to my stag do etc.
It's something I have to bear in mind in office hours, to a certain extent, not to take the mick with internet usage etc, so as not to put him in an awkward position. But I don't keep from him what I might get up to at the weekends, if you know what I mean ;)

EDIT: Lol @ Santa hats, about time we put them back in the loft till December?
