ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

'Rebels' trying to overthrow their government would be terorrists in any other country anyway. Besides, who in their right mind would want to help ISIS to destroy their government and take control over their country? is that really what a so-called moderate wants? they need only look at Libya to see what the outcome of their actions will be.

Thing is they started this long before the jihadists managed to dig their claws into the mess. The status quo and lack of help from outside proved perfect and fertile ground for them to spring up from.

It's fairly clear now no group has clean hands in this conflict, it's been going too long. I don't think the moderate rebels would feel the fact that a large amount of their side have gone jihadi as reason enough to down arms at this point.

They've been through too much and probably lost too many family/friends to stop now. In for a pound and all.

Edit: and Libya, as bad as it is, is a paradise in comparison!

Was this the hospital the US bombed? Or the one the Saudis bombed under US backing? I forget

Yet again using a perceived wrong doing of the US to defend an attack by the Syrian/Russian airforce. I don't get the logic? Especially when you've just made it up!
Presumably you're condemning the (fictional and) intentional American attack on a hospital? To not means you not only agree with those rascally Americans and their (in this case made up) attack as well as the Russian/Syrian Army real attacks?

Those hospitals were hit simultaneously - read, intentionally by the Russians/Syrians. Not for the first time either btw.

That maybe so but its not like its a simple binary choice - they didn't pickup arms against their government just for lols - although the reasons are varied and complex.

I imagine the Iraqi army wasn't really in the mood to protect a couple of CNN reporters though, it was bad enough that their country was the first live-TV war, no need to insult them further.
