ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

For everyone reading - Dis86 is suffering from what is called `Confirmation bias` , this is a recognised disorder and is where he has formed a belief and become absolutely resistant to any contrary evidence or reasoning. Even in the face of overwhelming evidence, he is sticking to his belief and is part of the overall self-justification, self-verification and an ego-defence mechanism .

Awww Harlequin, can't win with facts so has to make things up.

The world has failed, well humanity has failed, our leaders total lack of gumption to do anything about Syria is disgusting. (apart from drop a few bombs)

Ahh but it will be another Iraq I hear you say.... guess what, syria is far worse than iraq ever was in 2003-2009.

And what were they meant to do?

Side with a violent oppressive dictator? Go in and remove him? They had no choice in what to do at all. They get lambasted when they take action. They get lambasted when they don't.

When the direct evidence from the UN themselves is presented in regards to the overseeing of the impartiality of the election and you ignore it - it proves directly, conformation bias.

I was fully supportive of the liberation of Iraq from a pyschopathic family, so no.

Enforce a no fly zone, like Libya, yes it will be a mess for a few years, but could it get any worse than what it is now?

BTW, I actually think its too late now, we should have done this years ago.

When the head of the UN stated otherwise and you ignored it. It proves you can't read and make things up.

Yes. Because Russia would have ignored that no fly-zone. So Russian planes either get shot down - large scale war. Or the Russians act with impunity - West shown to be weak.

The government tried in 2013, the public made it clear they were against intervention in Syria so the government lost the vote (as most MPs didn't want to **** off the public with an election on the horizon).

Nobodies ignoring it, we just feel that one mans opinion is worth less than actual facts.

Because Russia would have ignored that no fly-zone.
Russia weren't involved in Syria back then.

That one man is/was head of the UN. His opinion is worth a massive amount. That the elections were free is another mans opinion. Why is his worth more?

Russia have been involved from the outset with their defence of Assad.

It's called first hand experience vs Nth hand experience.

One man is giving opinion on something he witnessed/observed, another is giving opinion on something he was told about by somebody who didn't personally witnessed/observed it themselves.

If we were in a court then one person would be called a "witness" and asked to give evidence and the other would not because their opinion is unsubstantiated hearsay.

Russia have been involved from the outset with their defence of Assad.
They may have given political support but they didn't get physically involved until years later.

Had the west enforced a no fly zone when originally planned then Russia would never have intervened.

Yup. It's not cheat what action the West could have taken to stop this, and not at all obvious that trying wouldn't have made things worse.

70 years isn't really long though is it? Look at our history.

Our history involves a reformation and enlightenment phase, both of which have gone well out of the window for Islam. A lot of governments in the ME were mostly democratic before the wonders of US foreign policy and regime changes.
