ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

What's that got to do with the thread? What are your thoughts? Or does the pointless rss bot strike again?

That aside the article actually says:

"AFP also initially reported that the school had been hit but later corrected its story, saying a market near the school was struck."

There is a war going on, you know people trying to kill other people....?

If the **** ever hits the fan over here then one thing I will not be doing is using a market. No matter where the war, it's always a market that seems to get hit. Even before it kicked off big style in all the sandy ****holes, I remember seeing a multitude of markets getting struck during the Bosnian War too. Same in the numerous sub-Saharan African conflicts too too, it was nearly always a marketplace.

Pro-tip: If war breaks out, don't use markets.

Thank you General, thank you! ;)

Where are you going to buy your food from?

Well Obama didn't get to finish his Mosul push before exit from office. That's unsurprising, given the difficulty in driving the Iraqi army, compounded with their hierarchy having more interest out to the West of Iraq rather than the North.

Still, slowly and surely ISIL are being removed from Mosul.

More evidence of Assad, and by extension his Russian masters, bankrolling the Islamic State.

Being extorted by people who have forcibly seized some of your territory/equipment isn't the same as bankrolling them.

Would it be better if he refused to pay ISIS for access to his oil/gas and then the lights went out in Damascus and peoples heating stopped working? (in winter).

If only he had some allies who had loads of oil and gas (and were desperate for hard currency).

Yeah, they could put it in buckets and carry it 5500KM :P

Seriously though it's not like Russia can just bring a truck of propane tanks over and connect them to Syria's power stations. Capturing the gas supply and holding it to ransom was a pretty smart move on ISIS part.
