ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Grinning Islamic State suicide bomber was 50 year old jihadi from Manchester previously incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay who received £1m in compensation from government  We are so, so dumb.

I wonder how many liberals out there at the time called for this scumbags release? Dribs and drabs of information are now coming forward and the likes of Blair\Straw et al defending the reasons they where involved in the process and the Daily Mail doing a full u-turn as they also called for this scumbags release and are now wagging fingers at blair. The Tories in the end signed his release off i think.

You cant make this **** up.

I wonder how much political correctness was involved in this, thankfully political correctness is beginning to crumble now.

Please show my defence of them.

You're the one who everything someone posts a criticism of assad attempts a pathetic deflection.

'But but look what America did'

Get it in to your skull that this isn't about saying someone else is bad too. This is about the fact that peaceful protests were oppressed and a giant crap storm arose. Those that are suffering are the innocents.
Wow m8, talk about been totally clueless.

I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to call for their outright release, 'liberal' or otherwise. Decent people might realise holding them without trial for over a decade is just plain wrong though.
Particularly dumb to lock up potential terrorists together to let them fester, plot and plan for when you eventually have to let them go. How many of the people locked up in there were fairly 'moderate' but went full jihadi after years of being locked up? Throw in a bit of waterboarding to liven things up. Yeah, clever.

Of course hard to prove what came first now, the chicken or the egg. We do know the roots of isis was spawned in gitmo though.

There has been protest after protest by the left\liberals.

I agree, locking innocent people up is wrong, am i decent enough?

Ah the old apologists excuses.

Others don't seem to agree with you on the roots of ISIS:

e: I don't really know much about this guy but according to the BBC when Ronald Fiddler was in Guantanamo Bay he provided useful info:

"US interrogators found he provided useful information about the Taliban's methods, and he was released after two years. He later joined IS and blew himself up at an Iraqi army base in Mosul this week."

So it does seem he was upto no good, and not innocent, there are reports saying he was picked up in 2001 in Pakistan, other sites say Afghanistan..

I just KNEW this was going to happen, i just KNEW it. They don't just pick up random muslims and lock them up in Gitmo, they had good reason to lock him up. Just be glad he didn't blow himself up in the UK.

Well they do/did but those were generally locals accidentally or deliberately identified as terrorists by northern alliance members. These British citizens/residents who got picked up in Afghanistan were obviously pretty dodgy. I wonder if any law firms acting for the families of his suicide bombing victims will sue his estate for that 1 million the UK govt handed over to him.

Maybe if his wife isn't a dodgy Islamist sympathiser herself she'll do the right thing... seems doubtful though, she was happy to take her kids over to ISIS territory when he was in Syria.

It would have been the ultimate irony if he had blown himself up here.

Vile, extra judicial torture doesn't become not vile, extra judicial torture just because the people who were doing it happened to do it to someone who turned out to be vile.

The Attack: Terror in the UK

Today 9pm - 10pm
BBC Two

Drama-documentary based on real-life stories from inside the UK's counter terrorism unit, focusing on an IS-inspired terrorist group planning a firearms attack. Events centre on Joseph, a young man who, while in prison for drug charges, is recruited by Ahmed, an Islamic extremist who converts him to the Muslim faith and along with other inmates radicalises him. Through drama and interviews, the programme reveals how UK agencies are working to keep the public safe from what experts fear is the most likely scenario for Britain's next major terror attack.

Wouldn't surprise me if the attacks against Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and atheists gets worse and worse over the next few years to the point of people arming themselves, It seems people are frightened to point out the 1 ideology that can't seem to get along with anyone.

IS seem to have discovered that you can sling munitions under an over-the-counter drone. I wonder how long it'll be before we see DE weapons deployed to counter this new threat?
