ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

But it really isnt.

The tracking of ip adresses accesed is basically worthless for counter terrorism.

It is however going to be fantastic for enforcing piracy laws...but im sure it will never be used dor thats...

Same goes for encryption. The paris attaxkers where known to the sexuirty forces and used entirely unencrypted text messages to communicate.
People still pirate stuff? That's disappointing.

You can't prevent an attack that's already taken place, but you can investigate it and find intelligence that could help prevent future attacks.

What evidence?
Who they've been talking to, co-conspirators, who funded them, you won't know until you've accessed their comms. Might turn out to be nothing, may otoh be something - remember that it was intelligence gained from a low-level courier who led to the discovery of Osama bin Laden's location.

My point is - people who are clever enough to avoid using insecure methods for storing or transmitting information don't suddenly become dumb when you backdoor encryption - I really don't understand this logic defect.

Are they human beings? Debatable I guess, but they will make mistakes.

And its worth making everyone else more vulnerable to scammers and other criminals day to day for the exceedingly rare chance of the occasional mistake by a terrorist? and if they are making mistakes there is a good chance they are capable of being caught by other methods of detective work rather than that very rare slip up.

"Three men on trial are 'known terrorists'"
"Naweed Ali, 29, Khobaib Hussain, 25, both of Birmingham, Mohibur Rahman, 32 and Tahir Aziz, 38, both of Stoke-on-Trent"

More Birmingham terrorists. Well done to the security forces to catch these people before they could act.

When Mr Ali went out on a delivery, officers searched the Seat Leon in which he had arrived for work and found the partly constructed pipe bomb and machete.

He said the weapons were nothing to do with him and denied conversations with his co-accused were about planning an attack

'Honest guv, it wasn't me'.

Mass sarin attack in Syria. All evidence points to assad again. Targeted civilians, looking like fatalities can be up to 1000.
And people defend this guy?

That's what happens when you don't defend your red lines. Plus they bombed the hospital treating the victims afterwards, a tactic associated with Russia.

The people who defend him don't mind when Muslims die, they support him due to there hatred of Islamic extremists/jihadis.

To them muslim life is cheap and only western life is of value.

The only people I support in that conflict are the civilians. Poor sods.

Exactly, that's the way it should be but people let there emotions get the better and support one side or another to the peril of the innocents.

where is the evidence?
There isn't any yet, the rebels claim that they were attacked by Assad/Russia, Assad/Russia claim their strike hit a rebel ammo dump where they were storing their chemical weapons, people are dead, and that's everything we know so far.

IMO I don't see why the rebels would have a stockpile of Sarin weapons when they have been using chlorine gas, makes no sense.
