ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

People getting shot at in a war zone, who would ever believe?

But let's put our tin foil hats on and believe it was them sneaky Russians 007 comrades who shot at them, because it's not like they already haven't had two whole weeks to do whatever they wanted to the site before. lol

The rebels have left, but there are still ex army of islam "militants" who stayed behind who switched sides, who have been "reconciled" and from what I read, they are being turned into a local militia, it's one of the reasons why the Russian Military Police are still there.

There has also been "sleeper cells" attacks before.

The escorts for the FFM was by UN teams only. They didn't have any escorts from SAA or the Russian Military Police, UNDSS (The United Nations Department of Safety and Secruity) wanted to recon the area first by themselves. The area is under Russian Military Police control only. No SAA.

It seems, a large angry mob greeted them and that's when shots started to happen.

Which shouldn't come as a surprise, the people there hate the UN, the West, especially after the fact, we just bombed their country.

Can't see why there would be any rebels there at all since they were defeated...so just who are these armed people?

It's obviously Russian obfuscation, but there's always a chance that some rebels disagreed with the retreat and or being killed with alleged chemicals.

Syria is now denying access to the chemical attack site:

Russia and the Syrian regime have been accused by western diplomats of denying chemical weapons inspectors access to sites in the town of Douma, where an attack killed dozens and prompted US-led missile strikes over the weekend. Russia and Syria had cited “pending security issues” before inspectors could deploy to the town outside Damascus, said Ahmet Üzümcü, the director general of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), at a meeting of its executive council.

Syrian authorities were offering 22 people to interview as witnesses instead, he said, adding that he hoped “all necessary arrangements will be made … to allow the team to deploy to Douma as soon as possible”.

(Source).

I guess they need a little more time to clean up...

This has only been reported on dodgy news sites so far so take it with a pinch of salt but there's reports coming in that Iraq has now joined Iran/Russia/etc in backing up the Syrian government:

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:59 P.M.) – Moments ago, confirmed information surfaced that the Iraqi Air Force had begun to target Islamic State positions with multiple strikes in Syria’s eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

According to reports, Iraq warplanes have so far delivered at least five strikes against ISIS in Deir Ezzor’s eastern countryside.

An Iraqi military-diplomatic source says that airstrikes are the result of a new agreement reached between Baghdad and Damascus whereby the latter has given permission to the former to carry out offensive air operations over Syrian territory.

Shining a light on the active social media accounts seemingly part of the disinformation war over Syria

I'd like it if they shone a torch on the 'moderate rebels, who they are and where they are after 6 years of fighting. How moderate are they now?

How impartial is the white helmets reporting of incidents?

Let's have both sides of the story for the sake of impartiality.

https://www.rt.com/news/424563-douma-boy-chemical-video/
russia has found one of the kids in the video which was posted as evidence of a chemical attack.

This link has a interview with him: https://twitter.com/syricide/status/986796476499222529?s=21

Second half of the video is few posts down.

Subtitles are kinda incorrect in some of the Syrian parts, hopeful someone will provide a better translation soon.

Russia is planning on showing an interview with the boy sometime soon to the UN. Their video and translation should be fully accurate.

Not quite sure why - from what I can make out he was dragged out of his home by people shouting about a gas attack, taken to a hospital and hosed down as a precaution and doesn't seem to know any more or less than that which doesn't prove or disprove anything (or than any narration that claims specifically he was directly exposed).
