At my work, we have a lot of Arabic clients who put on displays about their businesses and their countries along with information on Islam.

Today I was told by one guy on a stand that if I do not convert to Islam I would burn in hellfire for eternity. When I told the guy I didnt care, he said to me, well you cant blame me now for you burning in hell. I asked him to elaborate, and he basically told me that it is a Muslims duty to inform everyone that they are in contact with about Islam being the true religion, and that if they did not, I was allowed to hold them responsible when I die on judgement day. This means that God will also make them burn in hellfire as well for a period of time for not spreading his word. Can any muslims on here back this up?

I wont elaborate into what else he told me because it would end up creating a massive arguement on here.

I guess this makes sense why Islam has spread so rapidly and I have people trying to convert me nearly everyday.

EDIT: I know a few Christians like this - I like them a lot but they also have social problems when it comes to discussing religion. They are under the impression that they have to tell people "the Truth" but don't realise how easily such habits can make people turn their back on them

I dont think he was being racist tbh.
He just wants to know if what the muslem said is actually true or not.
If he said it about a jahova wittness most people would just laugh at the subject and at them peopel doing it

How dare you call me a racist when you dont even know me. I am deeply offended by that, as I am not racist in any way, shape of form. You dont even know me. All I wanted to know was if what this man told me was Islamic teaching. Islam isnt a race btw.
 
The mormon's who invited themselves round to our house a few times said something along the lines of that. That it was their duty to tell everyone of their faith, and once you've been told, if you don't follow then you'll go to hell or get hit by lightning or something. So essentially, you're ok until someone bleedin' comes up to you and tells you about God - at which point you can convert or be damned to hell! Lovely.

So we asked them what happens if you're deaf, blind and live on your own in a shack in the middle of nowhere. You're not gonna learn about God so do you get let off? Or are you damned to hell as well through no fault of your own?

Relax, I thought it was an obvious tease... I agree with you 100%, but I wanted to illustrate that when talking about such issues people often loose slip of the merits of the conversation and start throwing such words around without foundation
 
In someonelse's religion your gonna be dammed in hell if you don't convert. Obviously.

I wouldn't have said you was being racist at all.

As to your question I don't know, I'm non-religious :p

Suprisingly no. I wasnt involved in the conversation much, i kinda hid when they came round :p It all got a bit too scary for me when some Evangelist theology students (friends of mine) came round and went a few rounds, lol!!
 
My son hasn't been christened, some would say that he's dammed too, but I'd rather him choose his own religion rather than force my views on him.

Even if that means the choice of schools he has to go to isn't as good as I'd like.

Better to be like that, than be totally hypercritical.

I was baptised, my parents aren't religious and never forced any views one me. My own opinion about religion is one i've developed over many years.

I'm perfectly happy for people to be whatever faith they wish, it's when someone tries to force it onto me; I find it extremely irritating. Probably even more so because I have some strong views against organised religion.
 
I've never had a conversion attempt aimed at me but I can't wait for the day they do and I tell "them" that I'm a drug taking, atheist, sodomising sinner :cool:
 
My wife and I got married in a Registrars in 1980 because of our non beliefs.
Our 19 and 17 year old girls haven't been christened because of our non beliefs.
Quite ironic since we met in church in 72 when we were Christians.
 
I'm muslim, when I was younger I had been thrown into the religion thing believing no one other than muslims would go to heaven, I was naive but also extremely saddened to hear it. It was heart breaking thinking that my friends would go to hell even though they were extremely good people.

I got older and I got wiser. I no longer believe in such a naive way, I question my faith so that I can be a stronger believer in God. My belief is that you go to hell for the sins you commit and afterwards go to heaven. Good people to go to heaven, bad people to hell.

What about the places in the world where people have not heard of Islam, should they be banished to hell? I honestly cant believe God would do that.

Those who follow the faith blindly are wrong. Learn to question and understand. I dont take anything at face value anymore.
