Hey guys,

After 3 successful years with my ISP they today told me they have gone bust so I had to go elsewhere....

Can you guys spec me a ADSL broadband company as I havent looked into this for years and need connecting ASAP URGENT...

Requirements:

Unlimited downloads
Not interest with anyone with fair usage policy is at all possible..
No yearly contracts if poss

Just need someone who is reliable and who can provide me with the net for "bang for buck"

Please help

Thanks in advance...

Fast24

I called BT they are offering:

40g a per month
4.5mb down
64 - 448kbps up

22.99 for first 3 months and 26.99 a month thereafter...They also give you a wireless router which I dont know how good it is...Apparently it connects at 54kbps...It only has 2 eternet ports tho but 2 usb ports ....

I wondered how good this deal is? Can I get better from the likes of a) ZEN b) UKONLINE c) anyone else I dont know about yet?

Please help need to get back on ASAP - my local internet cafe smells hehehehe

The only way you are really going to get unlimited downloads is by going to a LLU provider such as Be*, Bulldog or UKOnline.

Check www.samknows.com to see whether any of these are available at your exchange.

If not then I would probably recommend Zen as your provider as these get a lot of positive feedback from members.

It might also be worth checking out www.adslguide.org.uk for information on providers.

AOL
Zen Unlimited @ £79+VAT per month (unlimited 8meg)
Zen Unlimited @ £73+VAT per month (unlimited 2meg)

Otherwise you're really looking at a FUP/Cap of some sorts, or possibly Cable/LLU if you have them in your area.

are bulldog and ukonline reliable?

previously they were not the usual bad customer service, failure to hit "guaranteed" speeds etc etc

I have checked ISPreview and have taken the numbers for:

a)surfanytime
b)zen
c)IDnet
d)Bethere

So will be calling them up asap...

Just trying to find the best ISP for the money I will be paying eachmonth also want the best speeds...be it 8mb - 16mb or 24mb....I live in Northwest London and am ok to for LLU etc etc

Please help...

Well out of that choice then I would recommend Be* as I am using there service which is great.

You mention 'failure to hit certain speeds'....remember almost all ADSL/ADSL2+ services are classed as "upto" and the fastest fixed rate you can get is 2Mb if I am correct. Obviously without you actually having a home connection at the moment you wont be able to get any line stats so would make a guess at what kind of speeds you can get.

Definately bang for the buck :p

Go for BT if you can pay the £27...very good no problems in 4 years.

I was thinking of going with BEthere but they offer a fair usage policy dont know which means

a) i will be restricted to certain speeds
b) will be restricted to what I can download

Previously UK ONLINE told me I could get a guaranteed 16mb down on my line...But I am weary of them and bulldog unless they have improved recently?

LMAO sjohal....

I was thinking BT but I think I can get more download speed for the same money...what dya reckon? Also BT only offer 15mb webspace lol

pls help

thanks

Well with Be* I think that most of there FUP is covering sending out hundreds of emails and nothing really to do with downloading although I may be wrong.

In regards to getting restricted speeds this isnt true as you are given the best your line can handle and as there arent many people connected you dont suffer from contention at any time of day. You are going to be far less restricted on Be* than on any other provider I would assume.

You also get the added benefit of a 3 month contract...

Lol 15mb webspace...erm never used it to be honest.

Erm, well if you can get better speed AND service elsewhere that is better, it just depends how far you are located from the exchange.

Bt is always a winner though

Actual quality of my ADSL with Bulldog was superb, full speeds, fast pings, great downloads at all times of day. Customer service seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds.

Sad to hear they went bust, i used to be with them and they were good :(

I would go with be* if i were you. I am with them and they are very good.

If your last ISP were offering "Unlimited Broadband" & "No Fair Use Policy" then there is no wonder at all why they went bankrupt.
Stay with a big ISP that do cap and have a fair use policy and they will still be around in six months time.

No ISP can afford to give you unlimited everything as you'll notice.

You may laugh at those prices but if you wanted a truely unlimited account thats what your going to pay.

BT cap there broadband products.

There is no cap for NTL (and you should get pretty-much the speed advertised) but they all have 12 month contracts.

well I've just signed up for BEs 24mb service, which is in theory unlimited. truly unlimited will be difficult because it gets abused by people (like yourself by the sounds of things) who download huge amounts.
