ISP just went bust :(

Another vote for AOL here, truly unlimited 100%, no FUP, download what you want when you want, and you can now get 1mb for only £9.99 a month, and theres no 12 month contract if you tell them you already have a compatible modem (even if you dont ;) ), and you do not have to use their software, migrated over to em from traffic shaping hell Tiscali a couple of months ago now, and very happy, speeds are spot on whatever time of the day it is. :)

Yup Tiscali started traffic shaping p2p, they only allow you about 10k a sec whatever connection you are on, could be 8mb MAX it doesnt matter as 10k a sec is all you will get, only from 1am till about 8am do they stop the traffic shaping and allow you your full speeds, even if your only on a 512k connection with another providor your still better than Tiscali's 8mb MAX, as your getting 60k a sec, and those on 8mb MAX are getting 10k. :D :D

When i migrated across to AOL they put me on 512k instead of 1mb, but it didn't matter to me, as i was only on 512k for about a month before i got regraded to 1mb, so a month of 60k a sec was much better than the 10k a sec i was getting on Tiscali's 1mb. :D

hey guys really appreciate all your advise...

so far today called:

UKONLINE - Moody customer services rep said they cap and couldnt disclose what my monthly limit is apparently have to wait and see if they decide to cap me lol really helpful lol

BULLDOG - couldnt get thru because its all internet orientated

ESH - not bad, 24.99pm, 30g a month, no yearly contract for 2mb

SURFONLINE - not interested

ZEN- 8mb 34.99 unlimited downloads so they say but think they restrict to 40g a month..

BETHERE - well this was interesting they claimed:

a) I would get 14mb at least on my line
b) 24.99 a month
c) free wireless router - speedtouch something or other
d) no monthly contract however they require 3 months cancellation notice otherwise I have to pay £50 cancellation
e) 1gb webspace but only if I pay £2 per month for an email addy lol...
f) unlimited downloads no capping

However I called BETHERE 5 times and they were all italian or something not that I mind it was the fact they couldnt really speak english or understand what I was saying...I asked them about their fair usage policy and they didnt know what I meant....I want to go with them despite the above lol

However I dont want to get locked into limiting speeds between 9 - 5 peak hours....Also BETHERE say their service is ADSL2+ thats why they can provide a faster download speed because everyone else said literally i can only get 4.5mb - BETHERE say its cus everyone else do not offer ADSL2+........is that true?

AOL - not really interested tbh...

BT were good for £26.99, 4.5mb download speed, 40g allowance, yearly contract, 15mb webspace..5 email address....

However I thought why not just pay BETHERE £26 and get a much better deal...

What do you guys think? Have I missed any companies? Am I right to go with BETHERE?

Please help, really appreciate all comments so far...

Thanks

Cheers!!!

Where do they say that?
It's £24.99 with a 20GB limit or £34.99 with a 50GB limit (and £1/GB beyond that), or what JonRohan said for the unlimited Office tiers.

is that true?

No. Bulldog and UKOnline also use ADSL2+.
As for what you'll get, they're plucking wildly at straws, and you should remember that migrating away from LLU is an almighty pain in the backside (generally you can get MAC keys, but most LLUers don't give them out, and some ISPs won't take them to migrate back to IPStream - it's all one big mess).

sorry prob got ZEN a bit wrong lol

so what do u suggest? BT???

Thanks mate appreciated that idea re: LLU etc ........why *** i wanna change ISP if I am getting 14mb lol although I hear ya when you say they are clutching at straws....hmmmm

what would you do?

so its between BETHERE and BT.....

BETHERE as tolien said can be a pain in the neck due to the type of service they offer ADSL2+ if I change ISP it will be a headache...

Or

there is BT..Same money but 4.5mb only

what do you think? what would you do?

Well if you went BT you'd be using the Max service which could go either way meaning youd be lucky and get a BRAS profile which matches your sync speed or you could get one thats nowhere near.

Or you could go with BE* and use ADSL2+ which has no BRAS profile issues matching with sync speeds at all. Say I connect at a higher rate I will instantly get a higher speed which is completly unheard of using the Max service offered by BT.

Oh and Ive had both and I am now very pleased with Be*

but BE operate a fair usage policy and if I am downloading all the time they could cap me severely??

with BT i would get 4.5mbs according to them and with BE I would get anything from 10mbs to 14mbs according to them...although i understand its all about luck...

The only thing that is stopping me from going with BE is what tolien says about if I change ISP it *** be a major pain in the ass...

So thought Id ask you guys to elaborate?

thanks in advance

Either way if you do download all the time your better off with Be* as Id assume your safe with a couple of hundred gig rather than the 40Gb limit you get on BT.

Yeah there is an issue as stated about migrating away but then if you are happy with the service would there be any reason to move??

very true indeed mate, I guess my prime concern is their "fair usage policy" which I dont really understand lol.....

can they stop me from downloading the usual :p even if I do so a lot now I dont go mad dont get me wrong but just wondered...

also do they cap your speeds at certain times of the day?

is the router they provide anygood? or do you use your own one?

thanks mate appreciate ** help need to book something today

Well they dont stop you from downloading anything that Im aware of....

As regards to speeds thoughout the day I get 1500K from newsgroups at any time of day even during the peak hours from 6-9 so in regards to speed its fantastic. The modem they provide is good aswell as oyull either get a Speedtouch 715/780 which includes 4 ethernet ports and built in wireless and the range is good.

Ive used nildram at uni for 2 years and never had any problems with them. currently on their 8mb package (broadband 2 i think they call it)

think its 25.99/month

You get 50gb of peak time transfer a month, offpeak is only like 8 hours at night but i download a lot and dont ever get to 50gb, plus if theres any of you last months 50gb left over it gets put on next months allowance. (only the previous months, it doesnt keep adding up!)

hey guys,

I'm gonna take the risk and go for BETHERE the only risk I see is as per Toliens response re: when disconnecting it can be a pain the neck...

So thanks everyone for all your help and advice :)

they claim they can get me up n running in 5 working days....we shall see.....

signed up by phone earlier and they got it horribly wrong in the end had to come to an internet cafe to sign up online lol...

hmmm not the start I was expecting....wish me luck

thanks for all your help guys :)

been connected for the last 10 days or more

bethere have a great service

After I spent three hours with BT wholesale my line was cleared and it took bethere 5 working days to activate my line and send me a free wireless router etc etc

I am on there unlimited service which 24mb ....I'm on 10mb down and 1mb up...not complaining whatsoever..

Had a problem yesterday (my first) just dropped connection and couldnt reconnect so tried diff things with their tech support and still didnt work...Looked like a borked router...so they said they would get me a replacement within 48 hrs...However later on that evening it started working again :)

All in all my experience with them has been very pleasant, yesterday for example the only reason I checked was because they called me back to ask more questions to help resolve the problem, thats when I tried going on line and it worked :)

10 out of 10 from me...
