ISP - Which service provider?

Well, looking at it, I will wait till the end of the month when I can afford to pay off Pipex, will be disconnected before then due to violations of the terms of fair usage etc and then get me a MAC.
Probably looking towards:
Be : £24 - 24meg max
ADLS24 : 8meg Home 30 30GB plan

to be honest, theres so fleppin many to choose from with so many differences!!

I have to say zen as well, been with them for 5 years and there customer service is excellent. Now all i need is BT to get off their arse and fit some better cables so i can get more that 1m down 256k up. @BenJi do you work for zen?

Does anyone know what ISP gives the best upload speed and bandwidth, download speed doesn't matter as long as it is 2meg or more. i'm looking for ISPs for next year when i move

Be is best for uploading as far as I know with 1.3 meg on either their full (£24 for max 24 meg) or lite (£15 for max 8 meg but you do have to take a 1 year contract).

Only potential cloud on the horizon for Be is that the Be network will probably end up being used for The O2 broadband product to be released later this month, so that could potentially cause issues

They charge £1.50 per GB over limit.

are there any cheap providers that give 8mb and unlimited downloads?

Not unless you're happy getting dialup speeds during peak time for the month that the ISP stays afloat.

If you are certain 15-20gig is going to be enough then I would go with Zen. (unlimited uploads there also). However if you wanted a lot more freedom to download then I would go with ADSL24, loads of packages to choose from, and if you like to upload then there office packages are very well priced.

In what sense?
Zen will give you either one or eight (5 usable, excluding the router) static public IPs - if you don't know why you'd need eight, you probably don't. You can regrade to eight (or more) later anyway.

ha ha, in that case I dont think I need to worry then =)
Well I'm seriously looking to BE & ADSL24.
Shall call pipex tomorrow and try to get me a mac code!!

does anyone know if BE has a FUP fair usage policy? you know, upto 24mb down and 2.5 up (with Pro) surely they'll slap some kinda restriction on it to stop idiots like me??? cant seem to find anything on the site though.

[EDIT]

Just found it:
If it’s felt that any Be member’s Internet activities are so excessive that other members are detrimentally affected, Be may give the member generating the excessive web traffic a written warning (by email or otherwise). In extreme circumstances, should the levels of activity not immediately decrease after the warning, Be may terminate that member’s services.

Doesnt state exactly what excessive is though.....
20, 30, 40 or 50GB a month? or more?

Which is exactly the reason I went with an Enta reseller (UKFSN) as no such FUP exists. You just have have to manage your peak/offpeak traffic which is a doddle when they have developed a little .exe called entatool that does it automatically for you.

I'm on an Office 45 / 300 gig per month and it does exactly what its says on the tin. Even if you go over you'll not be cut off, just charged £5 extra. Ok I only get an 8mb connection (actually about 6.4) but latencies are never high, I download what I want, and never get e-mails about 'you have breached the FUP.

I also have to say that along with Zen and IDNet, Entanet have have invested heavily in increasing the amount of centrals they have lit up as compard to customers, so the network is never over-subscribed.

Oh and support are UK based teccies:D

A little screenie here of Entatool if it helps..

AGGGGGGGG
homer time, cake ... beer

entranet ... 2.5up/24dl (possible)

I dunno, BE is 3 month notice on cancelation, so effectively a 4 month contract as will take a couple of weeks to settle the line in once connected. Well, that if they dont slap me with a FUP violation, quick n easy way out I guess.

ADSL24:
top rated, cant fault the reviews from everyone.

But, BE have that selling point ... speed ... pure ripping potentially line frying mind bogglingly fast speed. Its gotta be worth a try aye!

Pipex wont give me a MAC since they terminated my service, well, it'll be cut off on the 16th so fresh connection time!

a lot of these bigger isp's are just simply giving out MAC codes that just dont work bcz they have put a cease on the line straight away after issuing the MAC code!
