IT are searching my internet browsing history....help!

For future reference browse the Internet at home from work via logmein.com

Seeing as you are leaving don't worry they won't give you a bad reference over this.

Besides random acts of violence against your company's hardware (all of it, just to be sure) which will get you far more than a bad reference, there's no way to be sure. Trying to hide it is likely to make things worse rather than better. If asked, just say what happened - it's all too easy to accidentally come across these things. The worst that is then likely to happen is the forums in question get blocked.

Maybe you're going about this the wrong way.

HAVE the image as your wallpaper on the screen. If challenged, say it is part of your religion, if it causes offence you'll remove it immediately.

Just a quick question for you IT types out there,

If you delete all your temporary internet files/cookies and your browsing history off your computer. Is it possible for an IT dept to still view these at all?

Just i've been told that someone has seen a lewd image on my computer that was posted on a internet forum thread i unwittingly clicked on, and as a result i am having my internet browsing history searched.... :(

To be honest mate, hide the tissues first.

No way to hide your tracks in most companies with a proper IT setup. All access to the internet will be centrally logged - you can set fire to your PC and they'll still have a complete record of everything you've done on the net, probably for the last 6 months.

As long as the image wasn't something too bad you should be ok. Wasn't something like this was it?

If not, don't worry :)

If you're using a proxy server to access the internet then yes, they can easily view your browsing history as it will be logged on the server.

We found someone browsing questionable content at work and when we checked their computer I found a load of browser cleaning software, as well as programs to clean your cache and history. Made me laugh because we never need to check the local computers to check what your doing, I just look at our ISA server logs instead and it will tell me everything your doing on the net.

It does make me laugh that some people think that in a medium sized organization, we don't track what your doing.

We need a poll! rotter023 has not posted since 11:59am

Has he
a) been banned from using the internet at work
b) been frogmarched from the building by security
c) been spanked mercilessly and is too scared to use the internet
d) still being spanked mercilessly by HR
e) been made to stand outside the CEO's office
f) got away with it and is keeping a low profile

Somewhere I worked we had a new guy in.

On his first day:

09:00 He arrives for work
10:00 He googles "Sexy girls"
11:00 He gets sacked

That's IT department efficiency ;)
