IT helpdesk.

Do they not do a friends and familly deal where if you recommend someone and they stay for 6mths you get some cash, if they stay for a year you get a bit more? Lot's of insurance/law firms sed to do that type of thing. May be worth asking HR?

Funnily enough I was just speaking to the manager about the CV's I sent through and she advised that I speak to HR about a reward scheme they have for introducing new staff.

HR manager here I come :D

I currently work doing technical designs, managing implementation of projects and resolving complex business critical problems when the normal support teams are unable to. I go into this by working my way up from a helpdesk job.

To get a first line job all you need are good customer service skills, able to work hard in stressfull situtations and to show an interest in IT. Getting the job is about how you deal with recruitment consultants etc, write your CV and present yourself at the interviews. There are lots of jobs on the various IT job websites.

It is not about IT qualifications but the way you approach the job if you want to get on. The team I work in now is made of people who all started on a helpdesk at some point. We now all do various projects such as new proxy server solutions, virtual server setups, Data Centre migratons etc.
We all got there by hard work and taking on the difficult tasks a lot of people choose to avoid.

Hope that helps.
