Italian Grand Prix 2011, Monza Circuit - Race 13/19

I know Kimi is looking to move back to circuit racing, but he made it quite clear that he only wanted to be in a top team. He also walked away from F1 as he wouldn't reduce his financial demands, and was fed up with the F1 environment.

Can Williams afford him? And if they can, can they give him a car that will make him stay more than 1 season?

Being more optimisitic about it, it would be brilliant for Williams. They need a massive injection of something to drag them back to the front of the grid.

Although I don't particularly like Kimi, I'd rather have him in the sport than say Buemi, Alguersuari, Liuzzi, Trulli...

Not sure why he would want to join a team which is falling further back the grid each season though.

Maybe because there's no competition at all in WRC, and turning left in NASCAR trucks wasn't as fun as it could have been. Especially after all the moaning he did on the radio in that race. I hope it's true, as unlikely as it sounds. 2012 Williams Renault with a WDC driver would be good :)

Looks like Schumacher has opened the doors for retired F1 WDCs to return. Villeneueve next anyone?

Villeneueve returned twice (Sauber and Renault) and was rubbish both times. Biggest mistake he made was going to BAR. It was all downhill from there.

Would be great to see a more mature Kimi back racing again

BAR could have worked out fine for him. He'd come off the back of a career at Williams that had stalled in the worst possible way - World Champion 33 races after his debut (Hamilton took 35 races, he's easily the closest AFAIK) to back in the pack and nowhere near a title threat. Even after '99, when BAR didn't score at all he was still highly regarded in the paddock and by the motor racing press. Then he dragged the car up the grid in 2000, finishing 7th in the championship and missing out on the podium twice (Monza and Indy) by lack of luck rather than lack of skill. All he had to do was throw his weight around within the team, get everyone to rally around him the way Schumacher did at Benetton and Ferrari. He was still Jacques Villeneuve, 1997 World Champion.

And....he didn't. Sure, he threw his weight around - by threatening to leave a few times. But no-one else had a seat for him, and both he and BAR knew it. When Dave Richards was brought in as team boss, the writing was already on the wall. Jenson Button coming in for '03 sealed the deal - under-performing, grumpy, washed-up former champion or bright-eyed, likeable young gun working for much less money, which one are you going to keep and focus your future on? ;)

He was better than Heidfeld at Sauber until Thiessan got involved and then did a Ron Dennis attempt at unsettling the driver he didn't want.

Totally agree, JV's best year was 2000. The year MS won the title and the Italians still voted him F1 racings driver of the year.

Jv's problem was he wasn't as adaptable as others. Narrow track grooved cars really did him no favours.

These cars minus the DRS would have really suited him better.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but after watching the RBR montage on BBC after yesterdays race, I decided that I NEED a large picture of Vettel powersliding through the Ascari chicane on my wall!

Anyone got any ideas where I can get one?

I'm not sure about the picture, but are you a Vettel fan? Has he won you over?

What has that got to do with anything?

I want the picture because the image of a modern F1 car going sideways with big black lines coming from its rear wheels while the driver applies opposite lock at well into 3 figure speeds is just great.

Kobayashi's slide towards the wall of champions is also epic, but far less likely to have a decent picture due to the walls of the track, etc (the best picture would be 'through' the wall of Champions itself).
