Italian Grand Prix 2011, Monza Circuit - Race 13/19

Doesn't matter that Hamiltons and Schumachers tyres had gone off, Lewis couldn't beat him while Jenson could. T

ofcourse it matters weve all seen how easy it is to get past cars when the tyres have gone off.... weve seen button stuck behind schumacher for more than 20 laps before aswell where as hamilton got past him fairly easily.

i' agree hamiltons confidence is probably the lowest its ever been since he came into f1 though must be hard beeing schooled by an old man who you probably thought you were better than

Getting beaten by your team-mate is never an easy thing, especially if you have absolute belief that you are the best.

After the last race, I'm not sure what hurt Hamilton more -
MSc holding him up using questionable tactics OR
getting overtaken by Button and then seeing Button overtake MSc with consummate ease.

100% this. He can pass it off as a high top speed mercedes making it hard to pass but once Button sails past in the same hardware it has to start him asking questions.

I always think the 3rd driver has the advantage in these scenarios. The first driver is busy keeping the second behind him, the 3rd driver has the easier job and sails right by, happens all the time in F1.

Skii.

The problem isn't just that Button made the pass on MSc.
The problem was that he passed MSc and made it stick.
Hamilton tried for many laps and eventually did get passed him...then a few corners later, he allowed MSc back through. Hamilton didn't drive defensively enough. As always, he was probably thinking...ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!! And just like at Spa, he thought that after he had completed the overtake, he didn't need to look behind him. Just like at Spa, he assumed that the driver he had just overtaken, was history.

Add to this the fact that Button has more overtakes this year than Hamilton and you begin to understand that Hamilton hasn't been performing well over the last few races.

In summary, Hamilton's story isn't just about a single overtake at Monza...there's a lot more to it. And most of it is mental (confidence and belief in his own ability).

Well yes that's because he isn't able to stick the car where it should be, alongside hamilton most of the time.

If hamilton missed Q3 for every week from now until he retires he would make up more overtakes. Which would be as pointless a comparison stat without looking at where each car qualifies.

Not only that JB hasn't been that great off the line IIRC.

Making the MS pass stick was nothing more than Ms cooking his tyres in the battle with hamilton, had the roles been reversed I doubt Button would have even had as many goes at MS. Which may have been the smarter thing to do.

Was it only me that heard Ross Brawn say that when Button was doing the over take
MSC was on the radio to to Brawn(most liky about holding up Lewis) he hit the rev limiter so there was notthing MSC could do
but to let Buttton pass, I think MSC should have got a drive through way before the Button pass.

nope MSC was on the limiter when Lewis passed finally...

i thought he said msc missed a gear aka we had to let hamilton pass as ordered by the fia ;)

btw anyone else watched derek daly on "the flying lap" show?
he said blocking takes no skill , doesnt like defensive driving at all and doesnt think drivers should be allowed to move back onto the racing line after they have made a move...

thank god charlie whiting has the sense to think after a move a driver should be allowed to retake the racing line for a corner , DRS overtakes are bad enough nevermind taking away any ability for a driver to be able to defend his position
