Italian Grand Prix 2014, Monza - Race 13/19

It's safety. It's a response to Webber making it all the way to the tyre wall a few years back, and other incidents.

I've no real issue with tarmac runoff, but I have a major issue with the border between it and the track being nothing more than a painted line. The FIA create this situation and then wonder why drivers exceed track limits. All it takes is a meter wide strip of astro turf to make running wide the slow option and it wouldn't be an issue.

They have put astro turf in.

Wow, FIA in doing something fans have been telling them to do for years shocker!

That's what they need on all exits where there's tarmac runoffs, like India and Austria.

Apparently Hamiltons wing is going to have an extra flap on the back so they can put the words "This is your teammate Nico" on it.

wow that new lower wing looks pretty neat. can't wait to see all the team's solutions for minimising drag.

edit - here's mclaren's .. and williams'

That spoils the entire challenge of parabolica.
The whole point of that corner has been that if you get it wrong, you will almost certainly end your race.

To add balance to the Rosberg vs Hamilton - I hope Rosberg shows Hamiilton that he is now the boss, fairly. I enjoy it when British fans claim that Rosberg is a weak driver, while he continues to pull away from Hamilton in the title race. The moaning on this forum is great to read, everytime Hamilton messes up.

Hamilton also needs to improve his qualifying performance, because recently, he has been pretty terrible.

Then there is Vettel. 4 time World champ. Mr Consistency. But in 2014, he is getting beat at every opportunity. What is going on with this guy?

I don't think he's a weak driver but I do think he's had more of the luck this season and he's done a couple of questionable things (Monaco and Spa). When they've gone wheel to wheel and not hit each other [sic] Hamilton has come out on top. However…

Totally agree, he's been disappointing since the fiasco at Monaco although the engine fire wasn't his fault. Monza is usually own from pole so it's more important that ever to put in a performance tomorrow.

Not sure, I think the king of EBD is struggling with the lack of downforce. However, like Hamilton, he's not had the best of luck. He's had more DNFs than Lewis!

Hamilton:
DNF in Australia (failure)
DNF in Canada (failure)
DNF in Belgium (contact)
Qualifying brake failure in Germany (failure)
Qualifying engine fire in Hungary (failure)

Rosberg:
DNF in Britain (failure)

Yeah.. it's Hamilton "messing up"...

His teammate is better than him. Vettel's ability to drive the best car from the front is unquestionable, against a better teammate in a car considerably off the pace he's absolutely struggling.

Makes you wonder what Webber could have done if they were allowed to race instead of team obviously favouring one guy.

To be fair, RBR rarely favoured Vettel specifically. Their general rule was to favour the guy in front. It was just that it was usually Vettel. There were a few exceptions (front wing in Britain that time), but they never specifically asked Webber to pull over to let Vettel through because they wanted Vettel ahead, which is the lengths Ferrari went to with Massa. The biggest team orders 'headache' RBR had with Webber/Vettel was when they were actually using orders to keep Webber in front.

If Webber was able to put himself ahead of Vettel more often it would have been very different. It just appears like they favoured Vettel because he was the guy ahead more often.

Button currently splitting the mercedes.

Its easier to lose downforce off a car that doesn't really have much to begin with!
