Italian Grand Prix 2014, Monza - Race 13/19

As usual a button hater stewing on his own hatred trying to one up a completely innocent comment during free practice with me saying "things look better for button"... which they did considering mclaren have been at the back end of q3 or struggling to get into it all season.

No reason for a child to then come along and say "wont get better than 5th" is there. Its a bit uncalled for..and then to gloat after the race as if hes been waiting at his keyboard all weekend to say it. Sad. And speaks volumes of this forum. Full of children obviously.

Never fail to make me laugh well done champ.

Everyone thought the same about Vettel in 2008.

Yep that's what I said a fee weeks ago. When he's going to battle Lewis for a title I imagine their will be a shift from 'peoples champion'. I hope not, but as I said before I really need to look through the thread for vettels first win to see how loved he was :D

Vettels whole reputation and ranking is on the line. Most people here said it was the car being so much faster and having a team mate that couldn't fight him and wasn't that good. After this season that will be set in stone and his reputation will probably never recover.

The whole talking Italian bit in the room after the race is most telling and proves to me that Rosberg is a smarmy hunt....or something like that.

I was thinking along those lines too, Massa just refusing to get involved.

Some good stuff in that race - Ricciardo especially - and I no longer find Magnussen has the sparkle to set himself apart from the other young drivers.

Unless Ricciardo gets a title winning car and wins 10 in a row. It'll only effect Vettel if Ricciardo doesn't amount to anything.

When you say rules I take it you mean the changes to the car because of the regulation changes?

Yep
It's happened before. some people are just happen to be in the sport at the right time and the cars are exactly suited to their driving style. Then the rules change, and they never really do much else. It all depends if you can adapt or not. It's half way through the year and he doesn't seem to be adapting, same as Kimi. However next year they will have a huge amount of data to change the break by wire, engines etc, so might bring them back into play.

Entirely depends on next year to judge vettel and ricciardo. If vettel beats him next year in the wdc then people will have to say it was vettel struggling to get used to the new regs more than ricciardo, which as ive said before makes complete sense, a lot of people seem to forget that ricciardo was used to an unstable car so has an advantage in that respect.

LOL. Yes. People on this forum had no issues with Vettel in 2008.
But it seems that the more titles he won, the more hatred was directed towards him.

Personally, I like winners.

I am hugely impressed with Ricciardo and I'd personally love to see him in the same car as Alonso, to find out just how good he is.

I do believe that Ricciardo is the real deal and can win the title in a decent car. If only he had arrived at RBR, 1 year earlier...

I know that McLaren are now looking to win and will almost certainly dump at least 1 of their drivers. They could do a lot worse than getting Ricciardo (or even Vettel). I still feel that McLaren are taking too long in getting their driver line-up organised for next year. If they end up with no driver changes for 2015, it'll be another year of treading water and battling in mid-field and then focusing on 2016. Another point is Honda. They will be using an unknown/untested engine. Would a top line driver want to move to McLaren-Honda?

Vettel has already had plenty of races to adapt.
Also, Vettel is intelligent which means he can adapt fairly quickly. Webber, in all his interviews, has repeatedly stated this.

Hamilton, Alonso, Bottas (and a whole bunch of other drivers) have had no problems adapting to the new regs. Why do think Vettel is struggling and what would change in 2015?

That wasn't why people turned against Vettel, it was his attitude that changed once he was fighting for championships.

He changed from a likeable guy to one full of arrogance with the finger waving, many controversial incidents with Webber and his team always favouring him in these incidents.

That's a bit of news that's not really been covered.

Christijan Albers has quit with immediate effect from Caterham's Team Principal role.

Colin Kolles making his presence felt. Apparently there's no money. Surprise!

Talk on twitter prior to the race was McLaren keeping both drivers next year. Alonso looks to be staying, I can't see Hamilton leaving Mercedes unless he's pushed. He'd be nuts to do so, Honda or not. The only joker in the pack is Stoffel Van Doorne. He might get a seat in a lower team next season but is signed with McLaren, similar to the deal they thought they had with Magnusson for this season.
