Unless he's prepared to make up 12 secs on the same set of tyres, this is Borebergs

New M tyres against old SS, was always going to be the case.

What was more revealing was Mercedes being faster on Softs at the beginning of the race.

Super soft is meant to be 2 second per lap faster than the mediums iirc, so even with half the life gone on the super soft, you'd still expect it to be the faster tyre. But the Merc is just that good compared to the Ferrari.

If you are Raikonnen and racing Vettel, wouldn't you just let Hamilton past?

Then Vettel driving defensively will use up his tyres.

They are 10 lap old tires, for here and that tire, no where near the slow phase. It's just that Merc are a faster car by a margin.

Thing is Ferrari's might not hurt Hamilton really, slipstream and overtake much more quickly than Bottas with the same engine. If he hits the ferrari near the end of the lap he might gain more than he loses down the start-finish. Also thankfully Kimi is out of Vettel's DRS as that would make things more difficult.

I can't recall the last Monza SC

2011 - to allows marshals to collect parts of a number of cars. That was at the start.

We need someone's brakes to go really or make some kind of almighty **** up and scatter parts everwhere. Thats pretty unlikely at the moment. Generally they're pretty spread out now.

Mercedes and Ferrari lap times about the same now.

Crofty banging on about how Ferrari will do 20 laps on these, leaving only 14-15 laps on the softs, which would be stupid. Really Ferrari should be pushing hard now then pitting whenever they feel they have to. Pushing the ss harder for 15 laps then pushing the softs hard for 20 laps is going to give them better overall pace.

Yup, there you go, figured Ferrari were pushing hard to use up the tires before pitting earlier than they thought.

Crofty also being a moron, Kimi lost a little time throughout the stint, he didn't magically lose 3 seconds near the end of the stint to back Hamilton off.
