Red bull made a giant arse of their stop, making it possible for Hamilto nto jump Verstappen with an immediate stop.

But they made a small arse of their stop and brought him out alongside Verstappen.

I guess if LH has stayed ahead he would have been able to likely run to the end of the race and MV wouldn’t have the pace to pass. It potentially could have compromised the win, but would have given the championship advantage.

I imagine if red bull didnt fluff the stop hamilton would have stayed out longer but they got ahead on track so could probably keep max behind or even pull a gap so went for it. Ham would have prob been ahead of norris with a normal stop but he lost about 2 seconds.

They (HAM & Merc) were in with the stewards 1 hour ago at 17:15 CET (16:15 UK time), so I guess we'll get an announcement any time now.
I'm expecting a penalty knowing how things go in recent times.

And apart from Hamilton being FURTHER alongside Verstappen, I don't see it being any different. Yes, it's Lap 1, Turn 1, but so what?
I get more leeway is given to drivers at that point, as there's just a lot more going on, you could be surrounded by 4 other cars, you need 4 pairs of eyes, and crashes are more likely.
But in that example above, there is no chaos around Verstappen, he's only got HAM to worry about, and he purposely takes that line to push Hamilton off.

I don't disagree with that driving style - drivers need to be fully alongside or expect the door to be shut and backout.

I think the main reason why Red Bull were so angry about what happened at Silverstone is because Hamilton finally decided that enough was enough and stood his ground and they realised that Verstappen's "yield to my aggression or else" game was up. Hamilton yielded on lap one today when he didn't need to so you can't blame Verstappen for giving it another go.
