Its a shame that Windows10 is coming to its end...

I’m still on windows 10. Will continue to use windows 10 as long as I can. Maybe in a few years time I’ll think about moving to windows 11

Yea I'm still on windows 10. I'm also at the end of free upgrades on my licence so if I want to go to windows 11 I'll need to pay.

IM probably just not going to bother upgrading and see how long I can get away with it, I reckon you'd be good on win 10 for at least another 5 years.

Theres a windows 10 LTSC version. I was using it for a good while. If you dont need microsft game bar because you dont require the AMD 3d cache gaming driver and you dont use HDR then its great.

You can install the microsoft store if you like. Youll need that if you need the game bar.

There are no adverts and no data mining. Its for corporations and requires a volume license key.

If you pop over to github there are various utilities and scripts to help you with your install.

The IoT LTSC version is supported until 2032 while the standard LTSC only lasts until Jan 2027. Make sure to install the former if you're going to have a play as the latter isn't worth the hassle. ;)

It's easy to switch between the versions with a simple key change.

Just had a quick play with the IoT Windows 10 and a few things to note.

Make sure you have your network drivers to hand as it won't install any drivers.

It also put all my drives except the boot drive offline so you might have to go and set them online manually.

Also, once you install the Store and then the Xbox app, you can then install the Game Bar from the Xbox app. It will keep bugging you though that it's not supported on Windows 21H2, which is what LTSC is based on. Whether it will stop working completely at some point in the future is anyone's guess.

The fundamental issue is that windows 11’s primary purpose is no longer to provide the customer with a clean, efficient, functional operating system for running their applications.

It’s goal is to push you into Microsoft’s cloud platforms and lock you into their ecosystem so they can milk you for subscriptions forevermore.

Until that changes from what I’ve seen windows is only going downhill from here! The issue being that Google and Apple are just as bad.

Hopefully Steam or Linux can provide an OS a bit more open and streamlined so we’re less dependent on Windows in future.

Let's be honest, Windows has been like that since Windows 8 with wanting to push you towards other products and services, and bloating itself out in the process. It just continually gets worse with each new OS.

Having windows 11 on my new build is like having a virus for an OS. I should have stuck with 10. Even installing it took me over a day because of some really dumb features ( their 'out of the box experience' where you have to use dos to get past the internet driver not recognised hang - it's bloody working, you just used it to download your updates!).
Even just installing new drivers for my new 9070xt has turned into a nightmare threatening to brick my pc.
Win 10 was much easier, you could do things with it and find things. Even on Pro, win 11 hides and greys out options.

My W11 install takes about 5 minutes. It's a customised debloated ISO.

Less than <90 services running, and already updated to latest h24

Pet Peeve PSA: It's not DOS, that was a type of CLI OS that - outside niche use cases - went the way of the dodo 30 years ago. What you're talking about is command prompt.

I look forward to the next thread in 2035 where we can all moan about Windows 13 and how we wish we could stay on Windows 11.
