Id love to meet some of the people on these forums to see what they are like in real life.

I've been to two "official" ocuk get-togethers and met a few others by chance or such, and that's the question always burning on my mind when the time is near to actually meeting them. Majority are not much different, if at all.

M'eh I don't quite get the whole having to wear the right things. I sometimes actively rebel from buying things because they are branded. Then again I am in my late 20's with a kid a gf and hopefully soon no debts so I really don't care. I wear probably the shabbier end of 'normal' clothes. I don't need to impress anyone, don't really need any more friends than I already have, and certainly don't want any that give a gosh darn it about what I wear.

criticizing dress sense/music taste/drink preference etc is the realm of 12 year olds, tbh
WTF is with all the moaning / bickering?
What does it matter what peoples thoughts are with regards to image? I am me and couldn't care less what people think of me. I like to look good, wear nice clothes but still be manly! Do I have double standards?
I buy moisturiser, exfoliating scrub, etc... for my face, does that make me gay?
I spend £100 a week on clothes, does that make me a girl?
I get my hair cut twice a month and spend £18 on hair wax - does that make me vain?
I play golf and football - is that the manly side of me?
My point is, there are many different people on this very forum, age ranges from < 16 years old to > 60 years old. Most of these people will all be very different in there on way, some will certainly be unique and some have no social skills and think the internet forums is real life!
I like to goto the pub and have a few drinks. If I am with the wife and we are having a meal, I will drink a bottle of wine with her. If I am with my friends, I will have a few pints. It's not about being manly or whatever, to me it entirely depends on the situation I am in.

Maybe. Maybe not. But it is better to be yourself and fit into the group that most resembles your views rather than do whatever your peers, colleagues or the media tell you.

Of course it is, but the point is that even hermits are not completely unique. We are discussing about the social aspect of our lives influencing the decisions we make, it is not necessarily the media - the OP did after all refer to another thread on these forums.

Other posts on this forum fall under "the media" sphere of influence.
Anyway my point was that if you are comfortable with the way you are why get upset by other peoples opinions?
This was the secondary point I was replying with.. it will seem like I am typing it all out again, so I politely ask you read the thread (you can skip the flirting) again instead.
I know if people wore some of the stuff they do in Leeds in Doncaster on a friday/saturday night out they would probably end up being glassed

By posting this thread, it wasn't in anger that I feel insulted because I drink wine, use hot towels or whatever. Maybe I myself wear jumpers with vertical stripes, but that's beside the point I was making. Or trying to make, it seems. My OP was a little poorly put together, I guess.
My rant was at people who allow others' to control their dress sense, drink tastes or whatever and not about me personally, other than my opinion on the matter.
If someone is happy to drink beer, wear certain clothes or such, then that's absolutely fine by me. I guess it all boils down to people who can't make up their own mind or develop their own tastes, that really annoy me. I guess they're kinda like the 'pets' of society, controlled by mass media and advertising.
