It's Gone!

I thought MS increased the warranty?

That's what I'd heard too, or was it just for US folks or something?
I don't have a 360 yet so I didn't pay too much attention.

As for losing your receipt, it shouldn't be a problem.
I paid cash for my DS from the other main high street retailer, and lost the receipt. After ringing up their head office and giving them enough details they were able to track down my order and issue a replacement receipt.

They then rang up the shop and allowed me to swap it out there and then.
If they don't allow you a swap there and then, ring up their head office and they'll be able to authorise a straight swap.

Apparently every console with a manufacturing date prior to jan 06 has got an extended warranty, at least thats what i have been hearing :D

Wasn't that just the States though? Sure I heard that somewhere?

Yes it only applies to the american ones as they only come with a 3mth standard warranty.

Ah that's right, they only got 3 months at launch. WTF is that all about!?

The U.S. doesn't always have the same level of consumer protection as we tend to enjoy, on the up side they do get stuff cheaper.

Here's a question i've been wondering about. I was flooded in the summer and one of the things that went kaput was my 360 which was replaced under my contents insurance claim. Now obviously i don't have a receipt from them, so what happens if this unit they've sent me goes kaput? Is it still covered by warranty?

I've just phoned up the store in question and apparantly I can't get it replaced in store with it being almost 1 year old  She said I have to go through Microsoft so I will phone them up now and get a replacement ordered.

What do Microsoft require and what phone number do I call? Just the Microsoft Customer Services?

Your insurance company should be able to sort that out - they will have a receipt from who they bought it from and if it breaks you will call them and they will then sort that out for you. This is what happened when my sisters laptop that was replaced by the insurance broke. Since its a new unit bought by the insurance company it should also have a years warranty from when they purchased it.

Failing that Microsoft will repair/replace under warranty using the serial number without a receipt.

The shop has to exchange it. A bank statement is a perfectly valid proof of purchase in the same way a reciept is. Their records will also prove a person under your name with your card bought a machine from them on that date.

A bank statement wont show exactly what you bought though - so I have known shops to accept that "something " was bought but without the actual receipt a return of this type can proove difficult -- as they cant be a**ed to trace through all things bought on that day

Just my experience mind, in theory they shoudl accept it

Just phoned MS, tried to get an order through but their "systems are running slow at the moment", so now I have to call back later and see if their systems are working.

Ill keep you posted on the turnaround time.

The shop can't just fob you off like that, it's still under 12 months warranty so they have to either repair or replace.

Plus when you get it exchanged they should give you a new 12 month warranty. (I don't know if they have to, but they did for me as I was given a new receipt.)

Take it down there, talk to them politely but firmly and you should have no trouble.

All game stores know that 360's break a fair bit so they should be used to replacing them.

well my second 360 never got the ring of light death, it powers on and nothing happens, or sometimes i get a corrupted screen, my guess is the gpu has gone or the ram on the gpu anyway

Nope they dont give any more warranty. Think about it. If they did we would all break everything 11 months in. If they did it, they made a bad mistake with your reciept.

Had mine replaced 3 times, each time they said the warranty starts again apart from on the 3rd time when I got a refund instead.

Really you are being given a new product and as such it should be expected to run for at least 12 months.

Well you are in a serious minority. No one else I have ever spoken to has had the time extended. Microsoft wont do that either. Getting a refund and going elsewhere is the only way to get a year again from the time you buy.

I just spoke to some guy from MS and he says I have to send it in a box which is not the original. Does it have to be plain or just any other box?

He said it was to do with delivery men stealing the xbox's
