Same here down here on the Romney Marsh (South Kent coast). Same thing happens every year, everywhere get's loads and we get absolutely nothing (Kent always got hit badly when I was a kid, shame I didn't live in Kent then though).

Inland Kent got hit bad, coastal areas rarely get snow, pressure is generally lower in coastal areas, so basically blowing the 'weather' in land, this is why it is normally windier is coastal areas (also as they are more exposed). Also, the sea is warmer than the land, and water takes longer to cool...
 
Have about 4 inches here (Ipswich), girlfriend is stuck at her parents house on the outskirts where her dad said they had around 6 inches... roads all but in-passable at the moment.. still snowing like a blizzard outside

Which means it's about 2inches in Ipswich and your girlfriend is getting 4 inches at her house ;)
