It's snowing

Doesn't seem like it's cold enough in general in the UK for decent wintery weather. I wonder if it'll ever be like the middle ages again, with the Thames freezing over. Surely this is a cyclical thing to some extent, it's just that the cycles are over a very long time.

Apparently the Thames wouldn't freeze again even if we did get as cold as the days when they used to have the ice fair on the Thames, because one of the bridges (might have been the old London Bridge) was replaced and so the Thames is now much more free flowing.

The apple weather app originally had snow here for Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun, but now it's only giving it a tiny bit tomorrow.

This mega blizzard seems to have failed before it even begun :o

Going by the latest model updates its sooo close but looks like its going to not really turn out as much:

The Arpege model at the top left is normally fairly accurate but shows little other than mountain areas. Comparing the top right and bottom left only areas shaded in blue on the bottom left would support conditions for snow (top right showing areas it potentially could) of any consequence.

Bottom right graph IIRC only at -5 or below would it allow for snow to come to much and as you can see the bump up on the bottom row which shows snow probability intersects at the point it goes down there so really close but not enough.

EDIT: Bottom right shows a quick drop from mild to much colder but almost as quickly shows it going back to mild again.

EDIT2: Disclaimer as some people will get their knickers in a twist - I'm no weather expert and neither pretend to be.

If I had any money I would bet you a million quid it will not snow on Thursday (albeit some crap sleet that just makes a mess of things)
Blizzard my ***. I live in the supposedly affected area and it's a mild 6c and sunny. Where the hell are they getting these models from, Mystic Meg!

Average 7C drop in temperature projected between mid-afternoon Thursday through to late Thursday evening - at this range its is fairly high confidence.

Midday run has already backed off slightly again on snow forecast though - but the potential for blizzards briefly late afternoon/evening is still in play.

Is there somewhere that can show you the temperatures, pressure or clouds moving in at realtime speed from a satellite, or do the met keep this info to themselves?

Thursday:

Heavy rain spreading eastwards through the morning, probably turning to sleet or snow during the afternoon, this potentially heavy. Clearing later in the evening, then with clear skies, turning icy. Maximum Temperature 6 °C

Hooray.
