It's too hot :(

Has it got any fan pre-dust filter panels? Mines got 3, I take them out and give them a bit of a vacuum occasionally.

Plus empty the water as that stuff can have a whiff to it.

I've had to put mine on the last couple of nights, marvellous, even the dogs love it!

I don’t know if people realise but these single hose machines suck in air from the room (which it’s trying to cool) and pump it out the exhaust after it’s passed through the condenser. So you’re sucking out the cold air it’s working hard to create.

There are lots of great dual hose units......... none of which seem to be available in the UK, and given their weight its a fortune for international shipping.

Most frustrating.

What should I be cleaning? It is one big bugger of an all-in-one unit :).
If you google the make/model you have you can probably find the manual online, they usually explain how to remove/clean filters/etc as all in one units are specifically designed to be maintained by their owner (generally if anything on them breaks that would require expertise to fix it's cheaper to replace them than call an expert).

As complicated as AC units are there isn't really much complexity to a "why does it smell" issue. The air from the room is drawn in, passes over a filter(s), through a heat exchanger that removes some of the heat, then it is blow out colder. If it's picking up a bad smell it's going to be from either the filter(s) or the heat exchanger, both are cleanable albeit the former is easier than the latter.

One final note though, it is possible that the smell isn't coming from the AC unit at all but is actually just what the air in the room smells like at that temperature (sort of like the way the same glass of water can taste like chilled nectar of the gods or boiled urine depending on how cold/warm it is).

Wish there was a bit more breeze like yesterday, it definitely feels warmer indoors today, this time yesterday I was getting ready to do what surprisingly turned into a 4-hour bike ride with just 1.5 litres of water... Think I would use use those two bottles much quicker this afternoon!

Damn perfect today here in the nice sticky out bit ,had a really nice bodyboarding session in Polzeath ,then back to mooch

I have a portable air conditioner we drag out when it gets above 30°C. It’s so inefficient though. I don’t know if people realise but these single hose machines suck in air from the room (which it’s trying to cool) and pump it out the exhaust after it’s passed through the condenser. So you’re sucking out the cold air it’s working hard to create. It therefore doesn’t matter how well you seal the room it has to be letting in warm air from somewhere.

So the energy and noise cost is huge.

I’m extremely tempted to invest in a proper split unit this year...

Pros and cons.

I have one of the portable, single hose units and I wouldn't be without it, it's fantastic and well worth the ~£300 I paid for it (imo).

Exactly. Even if it doesn't cool the room down massively, the cold air coming out of it directed at you is utter bliss.
