It's too hot :(

It's very nice and cool - almost cold - outside, but the heat inside last night was unbearable. Can't wait for it to dissipate.

Much cooler today. Somehow we still have more rain and thunderstorms forecast - after having an afternoon and night of them yesterday. At least the storms last night were more distant.

Wonderful - went to bed last night at 10.00 with the covers on and got up this morning at 10.30 with the covers still on :)

I was bloody tired.

Honestly, just get yourself a portable AC unit.. I bought two of them 15 years ago (I recommend the 12000 BTU ones, preferably twin pipe for more efficiency) as we had a new build that cooked during the summer months, made twice as bad because there was no air flow at all, our position in the lea of a hill wasn't ideal!.. they still work today, no issues, I just clean them every 5 years or so but they've hardly got much fluff in, and you can use the same aircon sanitisers you would use on a car with them if you are worried about anything.

I can say that since then whenever it's been uncomfortable, I just wheel them out for a few days and like last night the room temp was 28 degrees, within 5 minutes of putting the unit on the temp had dropped to 23 degrees, I just had it switch off after 3 hours, that's enough to get the room to 21 and take the heat out of everything (it draws the heat out of the bed, duvet etc so it takes longer to heat back up), when I woke up the room was 23 degrees but felt fine..

I know how bad the heat/humidity can be and I've never regretted buying those units, despite the 'tubes out the window' and the noise even the kids (they have the other unit) pile in a single room and get a good nights sleep...

HOLY MOTHER. West End Southampton has just had the absolute biblical mother of all thunderbolts right there.

Right above, flash then boom almost instant. Incredible that was. Torrential rain, not loads of thunder and light night, but I've never heard anything so loud. Alarms going mental here.

I resisted the urge to get up and look out the window, but that rain and then a few very close sounding thunderstorm strikes were biblical!

Yeah that woke us up and the second one was pretty much instant sound after the flash. Third was pretty quiet in comparison and now it seems to have ended. Cat is curled up next to me now, he was not a fan.

I don't know how it happened, but in SE London we managed to avoid pretty much all the drama. All that we got over the last few days were two or three brief flashes yesterday and some distant thunderclaps, that was it.

What a difference in a few days.

91f out on the bike last week, just come back from a ride this morning and only 63f.

Winter IS coming!

I'm in Barley West Yorkshire, dry and mild,, staying in my parents bubble ( in Mirfield local lock down) and getting an mot at the best garage in the UK.
Looking forward to September, October back home, quieter cooler and less tourists

Yeah, our dog is shaking like a leaf still, she's trying to get inside my skin on the bed, poor thing.
Mom's dog used to try and get in the cupboard under the sink - he was terrified - best bit was he was the biggest Alsation you have ever seen'
We are forecast rain and thunder all day - no sign of it yet.

Something absolutely amazing happened yesterday afternoon: it rained! Real, actual rain that pelted down and it lasted a couple of hours before petering out. Thats the first proper drop for months. Some far distant rumbles but nothing more. Even more amazing the forecast had a low to zero chance of it so that was a surprise. Dry today but nothing unusual about that.

Winter's arrived and I blame everyone in this thread

If its winter then I'd be seriously worried the sun had gone nova or something, warm to very warm here lol. Its still too warm in the building and I've got a fan going.

It's been one of the worst summers in terms of heat and humidity without a single storm here! True it's not over yet but yuk, I'm suffering :(
