It's too hot :(

Having said that, the sun isn't as bright today but its still 30c same as the last few days.

I already thought I had fixed my heat intolerance with more water but that just made up to 28c just about bearable with fans blowing at me.

30c with fans is still melting in an oven.

Gas boilers will be banned from new builds next year I thought?

2030 or thereafter is a ban on new gas boilers.

Yes the £7 a month on average I spend on gas is sooo wasteful and making the earth die oh noes! Fricking Goblin Grunberg level of crap.

Meanwhile the UK sends whats meant to be plastic recycling to other countries to be incin

As above its 2025 that they are starting to phase them out.

Interesting, what are the proposed replacements to gas boilers? I hope not storage heaters.

It seems with all the environmental stuff cost and efficiency is disregarded.

As Bigboy says its natural gas, hydrogen boilers are a valid replacement amongst others

Incorrect. The legislation states that all new builds should have an alternative heating source not a flat out ban on boilers but a ban on natural gas boilers.

The network upgrades to plastic pipe over the last few years are making way for Hydrogen as an energy source, any natural gas boiler installed in the last 10 years can be converted to hydrogen fairly cheaply, also natural gas is already mixed with manufactured hydrogen so th transition should be simple.

Alternative energy source heating is not the issue, the bigger issue is getting bulk build home builders it improve house performance and installing renewable from the get go rather than the purchaser having to make modifications after the build is complete. Things like networking (cat6 all round), solar thermal and PV with battery storage should be standard on every home. But the builders don't want to spend out on the initial build as it drives up costs. Very short sighted this!

Aye probably, I'm slightly out of the domestic market at the moment dealing with commercial and school designs and we've not been putting gas in now for 24 months, its all heat pumps, PVs and MVHR's

Portable AC units suck - can't be in the same room as one that's running unless you enjoy 70db of noise

If the alternative features sweat dripping off my face I'll take the 70db, I turn up the telly..

Still 28-29c here in Cardiff. But there's a definite breeze now blowing in the room. Feels less hot even if the degrees value hasn't altered

Don't feel I need any form of aircon.
Unless we start getting regular months off this (I can dream) I'll stick with opening windows

Lucky you. The worst thing I think is the lack of any air movement other than the fan thats blowing on me currently there simply isn't a breath of it and nighttimes are worst when you draw those curtains what little air exchange there was ceases and heat just builds up in the room

It's literally a few weeks a year in the UK on average. Last year was a much longer summer I admit but this year it's only been a few very hot days so far. You are going to be paying ££££ for it to sit there idle/off for 10+ months a year.

It's a few grand, people waste that on stuff they really dont need all the time.

And you use it for waaaay more than 2 months, even if we're just talking about cooling we've probably used ours here and there since May sort of time, and if you include heating which it can also do we use it all year round - we have a big open kitchen/family room which our central heating takes quite a while to heat up - so a quick blast from the heating on the aircon which gets it up to temperature in minutes can really help on the colder days

Depends where in the UK you are. My old cottage in Wales where it’s cooler and doesn’t retain heat, never needed it. Our new build near London where it’s hotter and it doesn’t let any heat out, we’ve had periods of 3 months or more where it doesn’t go below 28-30C in the main bedroom. For someone who hates the heat and needs a good nights sleep, it’s been worth every penny. My gaming room is too hot even in the winter, so I’ll use it in there most months of the year. It’s worth every penny to me, but yes, lots of penny’s, it will have cost around £13k by the time we finish air con in every room this week.

Looking at our usage we used it April-September last year. This year it’s been used since May. It sometimes gets used for heating in the winter too if the underfloor heating is taking too long to adjust the temperature.
