It's too hot :(

I remember the days of working in IS with a nice big server room which was always held at a constant temperature and in a lab with an environmentally controlled room for experiments - some days you'd just find excuses to spend a lot of time in there.

Where I work now is interesting as outside there are air-conditioning units, they are fully functional and we are even paying a yearly maintenance but they don't seem to be doing anything internally... aside from slightly in the manager's office. It is absolutely horrific in weather like this as we have a huge south facing roof.

Always. I couldn't help it. It was amazing. It was like you had been cleansed of everything. Even any negative thoughts were destroyed because it was so refreshing. :D

Landing is 8ft x 3ft (8ft x 6ft if stairwell inc) with bathroom and smaller bedroom at either end and the 2 larger rooms (10ft x 11ft and 12ft x 11ft) facing the landing window where the unit would be above. I imagine the unit would blow cooler air onto the landing and it would make its way into the rooms with doors open, having a fan in each doorway helping it go into the bedrooms.

I’m no expert, but you could try in https://www.overclockers.co.uk/forums/threads/air-con-suggestions.18823328/

It should have an effect, although obviously not as effective as separate units. A lot cheaper though.

I got this for £215 delivered on 04/08/2020:

I'd say it copes well with a closed room, (3.25m X 3.48m). It is barely noticeable if doors are open but there is a bit of a cool breeze.

Would having a split unit aircon unit on the upstairs landing be ok for cooling the 3 bedrooms facing it if the doors were to be left open? or would I probably need a unit in each bedroom? I had a google and some people seem to think it works and have done so, put a fan on a landing that blows the cooler air into other rooms that the air con produces.

Yes, this will kind of work, depending on your expectations.

By way of comparison, I have 2x12000BTU units (main bedroom & downstairs area) that i've been running at max over the past few days. Shared condenser so when both are run at full demand the 12000BTU peaks of each don't quite add up - total output is probably around 20000BTU. With all doors left open they've kept my whole house temperature at around 23 degrees, so not 'Aircon cold' but considering i'm currently recording 33 degrees C outside in the shade at 7:30, pretty good.

Where from? Everywhere seems sold out.

The popular rainforest site just before they sold out.

Good for you, I look forward to reading what you think about it, as you seem to suffer in the heat in a similar way to me :)

Which model did you go for?

Honeywell 9000 btu model.

I can't wait to get it going to be honest, it's 31c indoors right now.

The thunder is here, the clouds are forming...sounds like its going to be a big one

Thunder was shaking the ground here but it never came to anything :( The rain did drop the outdoor temp from 29 to 23c though thankfully. There's a cooler breeze coming through now which is bliss.

Another day done….just 2 more and save £300. Now time for a cold shower lol
 this was my thinking too. I am also being a martyr about my dodgy TV aerial in the loft. But I know, deep down, I will cave, just like I did on the portable A/C unit.

Slept through most of day, woke up and feels a little more pleasant, however the towel I put between me and the bed is drenched, and room temp is 30.0C again.

Outside air feels cooler than inside though.

Clouds to the west blocking sunlight, but I dont think we have had any rain here.

Is there still storms or they done and Leicester yet again hasnt had one?

Accuweather is predicting this wont be lasting for weeks, hopefully its right.

Temps from 17th july (2 days ago), until 25th july in celsius. today in bold. If it is right recovery starts in 4 days and be more pleasant on 24th 5 days time.

30 30 27 29 28 28 25 22 22

predictions changed a bit.

now 28 27 27 25 23 22

I’m looking at moving house next year and I’ll be going for AC in every room, hopefully I’ll be in a position to have a fully air conditioned gaming room!

I'm jealous. :D

My air conditioning will be a bucket and cold water for my feet.
