It's too hot :(

i was six. i have no memories of six. must have been absolutely awful.
I was 5 and can remember it, popping the bubbles in the tarmac, the local pond drying up, my dad ending up with a couple of earwigs in his mouth when sucking water through a hose pipe to water the garden from bath water lmao, it might have lasted a while but I don't think it got to these temps (not that I remember the temps lol...), 35.9 was the peak from what google says.

I am tempted to get a single AC unit installed on my landing. The bathroom and the 3 bedrooms are next to each other, typical 3 bed semi (1940s). I will assume that a single AC unit cooling the landing and fans pointing toward the rooms wold be enough to cool them to a decent sleeping temperature?
Yes, When I bought this one was advised to buy a more powerful one than needed, because that way I could use it on the silent mode and it would still cool well. Modern AC units are incredible, it's about 20 db. The upside of this is that I can leave it on Medium at 20C and have a floor fan blowing out into the upstairs landing. It cools the entire 4 bedroom 1980s house. Left the bedroom door open and the whole house was about 21C upstairs. I'm sure it would have gone down further if I'd set the AC unit lower/stronger.

Yeh, the temps now are hotter, but it's for TWO days.

This was persistent, constant, unrelenting heat in the nineties (yeh, I'm old school), for two months, complete with insect invasions, particularly ******* ladybirds everywhere!

The reservoir that I currently ride around, completely dried up, looked like something out of death valley.

It was not pleasant, at all.
