It's too hot :(

people need to star equipping houses for consequences of global warming - don't need expensive A/C just wooden shutters that reduce radiation into the house, and provide cooling options with larger windows they cover opened.

Water supply problems in Cambs this evening.

Front is East facing and rear is West, so get the sun all day and being an old build with lathe and plaster and 9ft 2in ceilings the front used to suffer badly and not helped by a house across the way that spends the latter part of the day and early evening beaming the sun off their windows and into ours.
Installed mirror glass and blinds a year or two back and have really noticed a difference + ceiling fans keep the temps atm to a comfortable 27 °C

Managed to get the bedroom down to 20.5C with the portable air con unit. Trying sleep mode for the first time tonight but expectations are low.
Glad I bought it when I did, prices are creeping up now.

I not the houses below 10m though.
Those will be long gone by that time! :D

Can someone please spec me a silent or at least whisper quiet desk fan?

I don't mind if it's USB or mains powered, but ideally it's got to be pretty much silent at the lower speed settings.

I've tried a few USB fans from Amazon before and they've all been too noisy for me.

The best I've had before was a Muji but it broke easily, and again it wasn't completely silent.

Annoyingly the better ones like the original ARCTIC Breeze line seem to have been phased out without a decent replacement :(

I pretty much guarantee all the noname ones on the likes of Amazon, etc. are ****.

I have owned a few different ebay specials over the years but have up since they were so annoying. It's a bit of a surprise that the likes of Noctua/Be Quiet! haven't any on offer.

@caff if you can't find anything purpose made or just like to tinker a little - NF-A12x25 5V PWM
It has a USB connector so you just need to figure out how and where to mount it. Do you have a 3D printer?

That's what they do in a lot of warmer countries. Works well.

Their homes have generally been built with better insulation for decades too.

Good insulation and external shading (blinds, roller shutters, or canopies) on all windows that get the sun during the day would keep most of our modern houses below 20C as long as the windows get opening in the morning to cool the house down. Temps near us are still 20C or above up until nearly 11pm at the moment so can't get much cooling in the evening.

EDIT: However, I will say that good insulation is also a double-edged sword. Normal daily activities in the house like showering, using the hobs and ovens, and using gaming PCs pump a lot of heat into the house which can be then difficult to get rid of.

Despite having my air purifier on in my bedroom and taking all my hayfever and asthma meds - I am struggling with my breathing.

We had a massive storm with heavy rain during the early evening for 1.5 - 2 hours. Finished work at 8:30pm and it was hazy but fresher.

Had customers leaving the store when it rained and stood under the eaves of the empty unit opposite for 1.5 hours. We are waterproof and don't dissolve in water like sugar.

Time for a one way trip to Switzerland I think.

Same here. I think when we replace windows we'll switch to the tilt-and-twist, inward-opening German style, which would then give us the ability to get some external canopy/shading over them.

The alternative for me is some electrical external blinds which is more common on modern European apartments - I'd expect that to be LOL money though and a nightmare for maintenance longer term.

We could really do with some heavy rain for a few hours .. (This is not something i normally feel like saying )
It haven't rained for weeks apart from a few drops last Friday for 5 minutes

My new motorbike meant to be due to arrive around the 20th of this month and i bet it going to pour down for days when i get it :(
