It's too hot :(

Oops! Just checked the smart meter and I’ve racked up £6.50 today in electricity :D 18kWh in electricity, most of which will be the portable AC unit. They’re so inefficient!

I can top that, should be hitting £10.50 in electric today by midnight mainly due to the portable AC :D

Vs our split AC, 12.1kWh so far today. Living room been 19ºC since 6am, and bedroom 18ºC overnight. They're monumentally more efficient. Pays for itself over a few years near enough I'm sure vs a portable.

There’s a lake by Rhodes airport. Didn’t get a single bite on my week’s holiday. Got home and noticed three huge bites on my ankles. Must have got bitten from terminal building to shuttle bus or bus to plane. Probably a spy mosquito “not allowed to go home without being bitten”
To be fair Rhodes Airport is the Mozzie headquarters of the island. Luckily we seem to be immune to them. But been bit by the yelliw bummed flies they have. They hurt.

Ooof would not want COVID in this weather, well at all but especially not in this weather.

Though for some reason I only had like 1-2 hours of fever compared to 1-3 days for everyone else I live with.
I had Covid in early July last year and it was similar hot weather as we are having now.

It was horrible being hot from the weather and hot from being ill. That probably brought on an asthma attack too.

I also remember having mumps June/July when I was 8. Again similar weather. It was awful having a temperature as well

I want your immunity to them. I had three bites on my leg in April this year in Cyprus. Look at the reaction. Antibiotics needed. Still got bruise on leg

I'm so fed up with this heat now. I genuinely thought we were past it for this year, but no!!! Just I was getting comfortable and ready to welcome autumn with open arms, we get hit with this BS heatwave!!! I've struggled to sleep for almost a week. I've been completely cooked throughout the day all week out on Salisbury Plain. This heatwave needs to break. I'm so done with it. I long for a bleak cold Winter.

18c outside and 25 in. That's nice and comfy for me to sleep

Oh, it's 25.my bad.

How old is the unit? I'll see if I can work out my display as I think it is showing a weekly amount but I don't think I've seen mine over £25 and I use my two AC's quite a lot. Tbh I don't look at it a lot. If I need AC on, I'm putting AC on... I'm not suffering and struggling to sleep for the sake of maybe a fiver...

Only a year old, it's a Black & Decker BXAC40008GB 12,000 BTU. At full speed it seems to be using around 1.1KW according to the smart meter. If I take out most other stuff using powerful the aircon is probably about £6 a day if left running 24/7 with the aircon automatically switching between regular fan mode and aircon mode every couple of minutes.

It's expensive but necessary and I use it throughout the year, the exhaust pipe drilled through the main wall so it stays where it is and no window will be open. I'm not sleeping in a room that can easily hit 27c+ in this heat, and as my gaming PC is in the same room with a 4090 I have no doubt it would be hitting 30c+ quickly. No way can I stick that.

Had to turn on my make shift portable AC in my loft bedroom last night, 45mins to bring down the temp from 27c to 20c and used 0.84KWh I am on Octopus Go and I have batteries so less than 7p. Yes, I am that tight with money on energy lol

I have my portable AC in a loft area near the outside wall and DIY the air outlet through a wall into our loft bedroom, the loft space where the AC is is well ventilated and this is as efficient as I can DIY AC to my room.

When I was living at my mums, I use to use the portable AC all the time when the whether was close to 30 degrees but now that I have my own place I just close the blinds during the day and open the windows at night to let it cool down again.
