It's too hot :(

Don't think the Mobile Air Con is going to cut it.
The room heats up as soon as its off and have learned because of how they are designed to work its pulling in warm air from around my bedroom door ( can literally put my hand and feel the humid air pulling in from the outside), hence, the split system is needed to keep the compressor separate? and only be blowing in cool air, as far as I understand. So might return and put it towards installing a proper split system.

Split systems are much better, quiet too other than the sound of the airflow, S the noiseyest bit is the unit outside the house.

You can get decent LG ones for about 500and something not including fitting.... You might need the wall chased out for power cables and a hole drilled through the wall for the hose, so instalation costs a few quid but they are proper, compared to. Portable ones, which given the cost and noise are too much of a compromise IMO.

Whilst your at it, you can get multi-split systems too, so with a slightly beefier unit outside, you could run 2 wall mounted units inside off that, say one in the living room and one in the master bedroom.

Depends on your house layout how practical that is though.

I’m back at work today in an office on my own and got the ceiling AC unit on and its a nice 21deg until I leave work……

I did also think about a split level aircon in my hallway to feed cool air into the bedrooms but having done my homework it wouldn’t have worked as all the cold air naturally would have gone downstairs so really needed a multi split system with a unit in each bedroom so that would have meant spending £4k to £7k.

Depending on your house layout you could just have one unit in the master bedroom and one in the living room running off one large exterior unit .. You don't need one in every room really if you get decent ones..

We were in the Gower yesterday.

It was still pretty hot but a few degrees cooler than Cardiff. Finished the afternoon/evening at a beach and it was a lovely time.
Where did you go? May have been in the same place! :D

We went to the heritage centre and then Port Eynon beach. Despite being a bit of a travel junkie, it was actually my first time in the Gower!

I am getting married in 3 hours, seriously tempted to ditch the suit and go shorts and tshirt
You're marrying OcUK by the sounds of it.

Get back in the moment and stay off your phone. You got this, bro!

It is SCORCHIO

Completely melted after a walk, but at least I evened out the tan lines on my head a bit after I shaved my head.

When switched off, any effect you are experiencing is just normal thermodynamics, the main issue is you might have an unsealed window interface speeding it up, but even with split systems, its surprising how quickly a room (especially a bedroom) heats up..

However, the effect you mention is when a single pipe portable AC unit is running, it effectively is always exhausting the compressor/evap heat out the window, but that causes a pressure imbalance, which means air will come in to equalise that.. the best method IME is not sealing up the window after you put the tube in, but just close the curtains around it, this means any air coming in on an evening will be from outside which should be a lot cooler than the rest of your warmed up house.. but the units have more than enough capacity to overcome this and so will still chill the room, just less efficiently..
A twin pipe portable AC has the second pipe to equalise the pressure across the compressor/evap for this reason, but since when not running, both styles should wind down the exhaust fan so effectively the pressure imbalance is zero and it's just physics..

I'd just get a split system if you can afford it since it gets rid of most issues, other than installation cost.. for the paltry number of times we use our portable AC, I just leave it on overnight, it will stop cycling as the room equalises due to the outside temp being at or lower than the setup point and we just put it on the lowest fan setting in bed and enjoy a good nights sleep..

If I had solar/batteries, I'd probably invest in air con for heating and cooling..

Hmmm might give that a go..I have older style windows so just bought a piece of thick foam and cut it so the exhaust was sitting in that out the window, then curtains closed in around but everything closed.
Or maybe the truth is any system as you say really needs to be on all the time. Thinking about it that car AC when I turn that off you can feel it creep in within a minute or so.

There are mods you can do to turn a single pipe into a twin pipe, but honestly, having both styles, I was impressed with how the newer single pipes work just as well, mainly as my use case is on an evening in a bedroom, so the outside air temp is already decreasing, it was 25C @10:30PM and 21C at 2:00AM.. so basically I set it on for 4 hours and slept like a baby.. being on an EV tarriff helps of course but it's stil only around 1KW when the compressor is on, so for the few days it gets use, it's not going to bankrupt me.

I think overall my mistake is somehow thinking the room would stay cool.
