I've been scammed, any help appreciated.

You can but it will likely take a lot of work, ultimately observation posts can only get you so far, eventually to figure out the truth you need to start kidnapping people and begin interrogations.

Yeah no John Wick here, was more looking for an easy way to inform plod.

Can raise an online case with 101 using the details you've provided and anything extra, probably won't go far alone though it might get you some comeback via the bank - but if they are doing it regularly it all adds up.

Didn't the name ring alarm bells? That wasn't the name of the seller on fb...

I'm a fool I admit, it's like falling for somebody selling a an RTX4090 for less than a £1k., the product in concern was a Dyson Air wrap that are around 500 quid new.

But I knew instantly once the request for more online cash came in......to be fair I was only up for sending the muppet a tenner to reserve it, but hey ho.

As prior, cheap lesson learnt.

Ok but you are posting the account number for what, for me to call my friend in Halifax to ask him to tell me the details of the account and then post those details?

Very naive of me, I'm more just venting to be honest, certainly would not expect anybody to compromise their integrity.

I've edited the post to get rid of the account details.

I've resorted to admitting the cash is lost, and luckily a small sum (not that I'd send any large sums without being absolutely sure).

On the off chance, how unlikely this may be, don't send any cash if you ever recognise that name.......on the basis they are likely prolific on Facebook and fronting the next 'in thing'.

But I fully admit I've been had, luckily in a very minor way.

Definitely worth reporting it as online fraud via https://www.police.uk/pu/contact-the-police/report-a-crime-incident/ get a crime number and report to the bank - it will add to the weight of any other reporting of them and if there are other people reporting them a better chance you'd get your money back, maybe.

I don't live far from Oldham.

There are a few estates around there that are known to be rough areas. So it wouldn't surprise me about scamming.

There is a bit of a del boy attitude amongst some folks.

I got scammed similarly via bank transfer for about £200 about 10 years ago.

Reported it to the police along with a load of other people that had also been scammed. Within a couple of months I got a call from the police saying they had gone knocking on the door of the scammer and it turned out to be a teenage kid.

He ended up refunding the money instead of getting charged. Couldn't believe I got the money back.

I understand, venting is fine :)

This is why i pay by credit card, its not my problem then.

The start he explains his life which, is interesting, later he goes on to talk in terms of fraud, i.e. pay with credit card then its not your problem.

Good advice, and what I'd normally do......definitely had a lapse of concentration on this occasion (and as before exacerbated by my 12 year old daughter bending my ear, but no excuse on my part as the adult, full responsibility lies with me).

If anything it has been a cheap lesson learnt and will make me ever more wary online.

I just clicked the link and the advert is live again, I might make them an offer and see what they say.

Whole load of ads which appear to be using the same set but with different layout for the photos, several of them using the same site to generate a profile picture for the linked FB account.
