I've decided......

I gave up on pc gaming about 2 years ago, when I realised as a skint student I couldn't afford the 6 monthly upgrades to various parts of my system.

I also gave up gaming completely at the same time, as I was never much of a console player, but having picked up a 360 in january I'm really into gaming again.

I think I could get back into pc gaming as there are some great looking games on the pc, but not until i've finished uni and have the cash to afford all the upgrading that seems to be a prerequisite of pc gaming these days.

Well I was really excited about the 360 launch until I saw the launch line up, I'd still like to play PGR3 but won't pay close to £300 just for one game, I also wanted Oblivion but have a PC that can handle it fine. I have a PS2, Gamecube and Xbox and used to love my consoles but unlike all you guys I've done the opposite, can't remember the last time a console game really engaged me for any length of time! As for the social aspect, a good guild and teamspeak all the way for me.

I'm not trying to aggro people here by the way, I'm sure the 360 is great, I just don't think consoles are for me anymore! :)

Hoping the new fandangle flappy thing on the Revolution sparks some new console ideas

the titles we have now are garbage compared to what is to come.
People keep saying this and yet compare Halo to Halo II, hardly a vast improvement and Halo II ran like a sack of **** with all it's textures arriving about 10 seconds after the models. that said, if Halo III arrives and is the business I may have to rethink my plans.

You're using a game series as a comparison to an entire game catalogue? In general games get a lot better, compare the launch games for the PS2 compared to the latest games out now...

Or GT3 vs. GT4, except GT4 isn't significantly better than GT3. Shadow of the Collosus is a lot better than the launch games tho.

I just picked two games that sprang to mind for the Xbox to be honest, Halo seemed obvious for a comparison. Name me a game on the Xbox that looks significantly better than Halo if you can!

GT3/GT4 is actually a good example both look and play very similar and they are years apart, I agree that certain titles looked better later in a consoles life but generally speaking the differences aren't really that huge. I just think those people that say "just wait and see what the 360 can do once developers get to grips with it" are going to be waiting a long time. Shadow of the Colossus is another fine example, PS2 users have had to wait 6 years?? for that to run in all it's 15fps glory. I'm never going to be interested in a console based on its potential, If I buy it I want it to be good today! I do think that the 360 is a stunning console unfortunately no games on it appeal to me...yet! I'm not even particulary pro PC gaming over console gaming I just play what I enjoy, at the minute that is PC games only.

I've never seen the big deal about Halo's graphics  especially considering the game is 30fps so it ought to be detailed. I think there's loads of better looking Xbox games, albeit of different genres.

Fair point, I suppose you really need to compare like genres at the beginning of a consoles life to how it performed at the end of its life. The fact still remains that these improvements that people are waiting for will be so gradual over the next 4 or 5 years that I doubt anyone will really notice them. Weren't the developers saying that the 360 was an absolute breeze to work with compared to other past platforms? If this is the case then surely any future improvements will be even less noticable than in previous generations!

My point I suppose was that all these people saying that we have yet to witness the true power of the 360 sound a little dissapointed as if they are waiting for their console to suddenly improve! I really wanted to be wowed by the 360 and had the cash for one, I'm glad they were hard to get hold of now because if they weren't, I would have one sitting there unused. Maybe my problem is that I have a reasonably powerful PC but when the Xbox was released I didn't have a PC at all making it seem more impressive at the time! (Probably why Halo imressed me so much)

I will probably pick one up in a year or so as long as there are games around that I can't do without, problem is my PC will knock spots off it by that time making it less desirable!

Jade Empire was also very impressive :)

Come to think of it, didn't Far Cry look pretty decent too :D I think I've expressed my opinion and it is just that! :)

I was converted by mistake! I bought a new graphics card which I got cheep as it was clearance stock. The card turned up and at some point it had obviously been unpackaged and had been swapped over for a PCI-E one which was no use to me.

I sent it back and that gave me time to think, the only game I ever used to play on my PC was Battlefield 2 and that was starting to get on my wick and the hype about the 360 was reaching crazy levels so I decided that instead of a new graphics card I'd hold out for a 360.

Really good decision. My gaming time is limited so I like to be able to bung in a game and away I go. None of this "this server only allows V1.00000012-b you are running V1.000000012-a please update" rubbish!

Also the 360 is a better spec than my PC would have been even with the new card and it should provide a good few years service without becoming obsolete.

The trouble is, it is academic how fast your PC is if the best games aren't available for PC :) If I look at my Xbox games collection now, only two of them are on the PC. The rest are all console only. Consoles get the best driving, flight sim (action) and fighting games.

That's a matter of opinion, If you were to look at my PC games collection only two of them are available on the Xbox or 360. I also have no interest in action flying games (unless you count Rez :)) or fighting games and as for driving games it depends on the style that you like, there aren't any real sims on a console simply because they won't sell. I'm glad you prefer you 360 but not all of us are going to jump ship :D
I get a bit of a Hare and the Tortoise feeling, while everyone is currently amazed by the bells and whistle that the 360 has, you may ignore PC gaming for a year or so until you look again towards the PC and think "sweet jesus look at that!!" then jump back, I realise that a lot of you will deny this, only time will tell ;)

We are all technology whores around here otherwise we surely wouldn't be here :)

I'm not sure I am a technology whore exactly - my TV, PC and console are all dated. I don't have a 360 btw. I don't think any PC game for years has made me say jesus look at that :) Several Xbox games have though.

me waits impatiently for Ps3 and the next installment of GT etc in HD mode!!

atm im still pc gaming due to not wanting an xbox360,

i only play 2 pc games and tbh one of those i have only cranked open in the last couple of days to view in HD TV mode lol

I prefer the type of games my PC offers.

I've spent all week playing RTW again.

I'm currently trying to get my all time favorite X-Com apocalypse to work on XP64.

I've got a choice of X-Box/X-Box360/Ps2/Gamecube here, and the only one that has seen any action in the past fortnight has been the Cube with RE4.

I agree with that :) Dual 3.6Ghz Xeons, Dual 7800GTXs here - yet only 5 hours in the last two months has been spent playing games on it.

I dread to think the hours Ive racked up since I got my 360. I have 20 or so people from here in my friends list and there is almost always people on their's too.

I'm actually really glad there's no games out I want til June. It stops me chasing unlocks ;) and I can play games online for a while until some more stuff I want comes out.

I dont think theres anything wrong with the line up of games either. Ive enjoyed pretty much all ive brought.

Its a fantastic piece of kit and by far the most used console I have ever brought.

No. I think the point that you've missed completely is that there are "all these people saying that we have yet to witness the true power of the 360" but are still mightly impressed with what they've seen.

Aint nothing wrong with looking forward to what's round the corner, especially when you're impressed with what's down the current avenue.

I hope you're right, that would be great, personally I'd wait until these fantastic games appear until I buy a console, I'm not doubting that some people love the games available for the 360, there is just nothing there that interests me yet and I won't buy a console based on games that will be released soon.

I guess I'm still bitter about the fact that I bought the original Xbox and wanted to play True fantasy Online and BC........still waiting!

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that out of all the last gen consoles the Xbox failed to deliver a single definitive gaming moment, Morrowind was the closest It came IMO, Halo I would also consider to be pretty decent but when compared to games like Metroid it really offered nothing new. Again my opinion and nothing more!!

Sums up this thread tbh ;) Ure TRYING to get ya fav game working, ill race ya *puts game in dvd tray and plays within <20secs* i win :p

PC games are getting rubbish, i was going off em a while ago and it aint helping now. Most of em seem to be rushed and then it takes endless patches to fix things which takes forever! Quake 4 for example 1 game i was looking forward to for multiplayer and it wasnt so long ago the patch came out. Coupled with the fact the original game DVD does not work in my drive and the hassle i had to get it working does not help.

360 = instant gaming there was still people on my list uptil a few mins ago which i could have joined and been chatting to easy as! Its just so much easier to jump on 360 and play. I bought all new rig about 8 months ago cost me about £800 (not incl monitor) and it dont play games as well now as i hoped it would :( Its just a complete waste of ££ to be upgrading all the time when u do its old before the next "decent" pc game is out. I just cant see the point in wasting the ££ on it now.
