Can I ask u peerguardian users a quick question?

How many scans and things turn up in yours?

Mines been pretty empty for the past 2-3 months ive been using it however as of last 3 weeks got 10000s in there.

Anything from Cydoor technologies, I-media even had one called FBI.Mp3.com, but overall the main one ive had is NTL Network managment Level 2-3...

I mean look at a small fraction of my log here:

Sure do matey, all depends on what you download\upload of course.
Lets say for example you was very naughty and downloaded pirates of the caribbean when it was first released. There was lots of anti piracy people monitoring the torrents for that and quite a few people got a nasty letter from their ISP.
Your much less likely to be monitored if downloading some obscure or old stuff. Saying this If you stay in a hub or simular in a program like DC++ for long enough you will be scanned as a matter of course regardless of what you are doing.

Also some of what peerguardian rejects isnt as scary as it seems, for example 'double click' cookies and fake files on kazza. Throw all these in the pot and add a shed load of multiples and its scaryier than it looks.
 
ahh true, ive checked and it seems plenty people are getting NTL in there peerguardian logs also....

Some from America some Europe but quite a few UK people also.

I just uninstalled Peerguardian cos it just fuels the paranoia really and Ive decided to use the updated IP block list for my firewall instead much easier/stable since peerguardians still buggy and problematic.
 
Dont want to move to far away from the subject here, but you all seem to be very knowledgable about Internet issues and security!

Basically I have started getting porn spam emails on my old (over 2 years old) Tinworld email account. About 5 a day, but they are really starting to pi**me off :mad:

They are not actually addressed directly to my own Tinyworld account, but are addressed to other email addresses that are close in name

eg, Instead of [email protected] they are addressed too:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

I haven't signed up or used this old email address for over 2 years, since I got NTL broadband, but do still collect mail from it as a few people still have it. I have set up a filter in Outlook to send directly to Deleted Items, but the list of words is getting out of control (teen, hardcore, XXX etc), and they eventually leak through. The sender is different each time and again I am fed up of having to block sender each time another comes through.

None of these spamy mails have an 'Unsubscribe link' on them and I dont want to link to their sites as I believe that is when they know that the email address is valid and then shag you even more (pardon the pun!)

Anyone got any suggestions,
 
unless you use some sort of filtering software there's nothing you can do against the tide of spam:(

Just a word of warning to all those using the Peerguardian database and who also crunch SETI .

It appears that the last update of the database includes a very large block of IPs -

Cogent fake files (split due to suprnova servers in range):66.28.207.21-66.28.255.255

This large block includes the SETI server at Berkley so you effectively block any chance of returning results or getting new workunits.

They were a bit over eager with this large range as i've already come accross a couple of other sites i use that are also in thia range and are now blocked ( espn.com , part of Disney and www.cameraware.com webcam applet's servers are also in it) .

So people if you start having problems connecting to sites you think you should be able to access , keep an eye on peerguardian and if the blocked number starts increasing whenever you try and visit the site , start checking if it's IP address is in the blocked list.

another top tip to keep your pc secure, send me a cd with all your passwords on it by accident, like Iver did :D

same here, can't find any info about it anywhere, anyone know how to add the xml list to zonealarm? :)
 
i installed peerguardian last night - i think it was pr5 tho

I also installed spybot - when it searches the hdd the cpu works at 100%, but when the search for spyware is over its fine. - is that normal?
 
Peerguardian pr14 is out now, downloaded it last nite, seems a lot more nicer, plus u have a new options tab on it so it can start up as soon as u log onto windows. It also does the ip scan and auto downlaods the ip update list. Only thing do not and i mean do not check the box that say check each ip as it will literally go thru each and every ip addy thats in the peerguardian list and maxes out your connection. I only found this out after seeing my upload and download speeds suffer and my net connection light constantly blinking even tho i wasnt surfin at all lol.
