Did anyone see this tonight? It sickened and upset me. The evil and brutality in those two boys. James was crying for his mother while they was killing him ffs. How could their warped minds allow them to do this? I don’t even have children and it sickens me. I dread to think what it does to those who have young children.

And all they got was 8 years in a cushy children’s detention centre and now Thompson is out on the streets living a normal life while Venables is back in jail for getting his kicks out of more innocent children being hurt!

Where is the justice in this world?

Well, Venables is back in jail. That sounds like justice to me.
How long for? And what about Thompson?

Venables had to be released to commit these further crimes. They should have spent many more years in jail than they did. Never even made it to an adult prison.

The evil and brutality in those two boys.
"Sins of the fathers" and all that.

Both their parents were abusive - their father violent, their mother alcoholic (and violent). The conditions of their upbringing were described as a "lord of the flies" situation, from conception onwards. The father routinely beat all of them, including the mother, causing at least one miscarriage.

That doesn't mean they weren't evil. But it's not difficult to see how they became evil. It was basically all they ever knew. They never had a chance.

Venables should have lost his anonymity the day he broke his licence how many chances do you give vile human beings like this, what if one day he murders again, there will be riots if that happens.

Thompson seemed destined to kill or at the very least be a violent criminal, grew up in a violent home, very aggressive with the ability to show zero emotion at just the age of 10, he’s also apparently scored quite highly on IQ tests. All classic markers in many serial killers.

Due to their age and laws at the time justice was served appropriately, life without parole wasn’t an option or even a sentence that would have taken them to old age.

Questions do lie within the psyciatric assessments though that deemed them fit for release.

He's quite clearly a lost cause who will never be able to function normally in society, ever. Too sick in the head (maybe not entirely his own fault) to ever be trusted.

There’s a very fine line between the two, but do you think 8 years in a cushy detention centre was punishment enough?

What’s the purpose of detention? To protect society, act as a deterrent, and rehabilitate offenders into productive members of society. Clearly 8 years was nowhere near good enough for Venables, Thompson reportedly has never reoffended since his release. Arguably 8 years was good enough for him. (Edit: and when I say arguably I’m not entirely sure it is long enough)

If you want the sentence to be revenge then maybe 8 years wasn’t good enough for Thompson. But I don’t think revenge is a good trait in a justice system.

Didn't watch the documentary, but i intend to..

Denise Fergus and Ralph Bulger bought my grandparents house many years back and my dad was a police officer in bootle. Very close to home and a sickening horrible act of insane violence, children shouldn't be capable to do what they did.

children shouldn't be capable to do what they did.
It's a cycle of violence. Evil begets evil.

Their parents shouldn't have been capable of doing what they did to their children/each other. But they did.

A tendency towards mental illness is also definitely inheritable, and there's scientific evidence to support that.

Not making excuses for them by any means. But they were raised to be evil, by evil parents, and would have been irreperably damaged children from a very young age.

It did seem really odd for the judge to name them and allow their photos to be released and then for them to be given new identities... I mean if they were supposed to remain anonymous then why name them in the first place?

It does seem that one of them is no where near rehabilitated, and from some of the tabloid stories had a bit of a reputation in the children's lock up. Essentially for the one that hasn't reoffended his life has likely been improved by the process - he was taken away from an abusive home, given a new identity and has probably achieved better GCSE/A level grades than he'd have likely achieved otherwise. He could be living quite a successful life now - though given his very violent past and his anonymity I wonder how well protected any future wife/partner and kids would be - surely there is a duty to inform them?

In Liverpool it would have been impossible to keep their names secret.

Apparently (and I got this from the sun so don’t blame me if wrong) Thompson has a male partner who is aware who he really is.

just found this article, apparently Venables might already be a father...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ers-fears-recognising-child-killer-lover.html

A mother has revealed how she fears James Bulger murderer Jon Venables may be her son's father.

She suspects that she briefly dated the child killer while unaware of his true identity.

But after seeing recent pictures that claim to be Venables, she was horrified when she recognised the resemblance between him and her former lover.

She believes she briefly dated Venables - who was given a different identity on release - in 2008 after he had been released from custody for the murder of toddler James.

The relationship abruptly ended before she gave birth after she discovered he was a Schedule One offender – a person who has been convicted of the worst crimes against children.

She told The Mirror she had no idea of his true identity or the exact nature of his offences.

bit sad that she only found out after she was already pregnant

How long for?

40 months.

And what about Thompson?

Has he committed any crimes recently?

Personally I think they should have been shot in the back of the head. But unfortunately that's not an option.

The other thing that bugs me about Venebles is that he's blown his own cover a few times now, he's allowed photos of himself to appear in the press (such as when he worked at a well known restaurant chain) and he's told friends/employees etc.. who he really is - it then gets out on twitter and thousands of pounds have to be spent providing him with a new identity and relocating him etc..

Yet should anyone retweet/publish the pictures they're under threat of being held in contempt of court. Surely he ought to be too, through his own actions/opening his fat mouth he breaks the court order to keep himself anonymous and costs the tax payer thousands of pounds... he should have been locked up a few times already for this.
