James Cameron's 'Avatar' - The next gen of cinema

Check my link in the OP for info as to what the tech is and how it is different

After reading the links on your op - motion capture (couldn't think of the name in my last post) was used back in 2000-2001 in final fantasy spirits within and all the other ones I listed, so its not revolutionary, its newer tech but its not something that hasn't been done before, especially outside of the US, christ even beowolf used it.

The '3D' effect isn't even that new, yes its using an updated technique but its not a new thing.

Looks great and so does the game.

And woah just watched the trailer for Strange Days on youtube. never seen it just orderd it for 4 quid :D

I saw the preview of it at Vue in the West End and it is AMAZING! I actually had to do an interview on camera where I think I said amazing a fair few times.

The 3D experience is just incredible - You can make out the depth and the layers on each and every scene. I'm 100% definitely going to check this out - probably at IMAX.

I have to say that after reading a brief plot synopsis, I didn't think that I'd be that impressed and what not, but after watching the trailer... Well, let's just say I'll be making the hour drive to watch it at an IMAX cinema. :D

He's not especially prolific at either, and while he is a talented director of action, his talents run out when he moves to any other other genre. As for his script-writing, watch Titanic again and then try to call him a talented script-writer again with a straight face.

M

What examples (plural) do you have of this?
He has written one script that isnt an action film, and that was for the highest grossing film of all time.
So other than that one example of him writing a non action film, what other examples can you give us?

I watched the trailer on apple site and to be honest the 3D work didn't look that much better quality than that used in appleseed

So let me summarise your statement... 'I watch a 2D trailer and thought the 3D sucked'... Hmmm...

Show me another action director who has produced films with such solid scripts (don't forget he writes his own stuff), with such solid characters, all backed up with such stunning production standards?

snip....

Clint Eastwood. In fact, Clint is better. He has strong characters in his stories too.

 Clint is a fabulous director, but not quite in the same genre as Cameron is he... And to my knowledge he doesn't write (or contribute) towards his own stuff...

But let's not get into this. No one is proclaiming Cameron as the best director ever... But he must be near the top of the list of action/scifi film makers...

BTW - In the trailer, why are there seemingly huge lumps of rock floating in the air? Sure Newton would have something to say about this?

LOL! Seriously though, Cameron is usually pretty good on putting believable hard science behind his scifi, so I've got to wonder what the explanation for a billion tonnes of floating rock is...

no 3D as in the cad work not '3D' as in green and red glasses - try reading the whole post before trying to summarise my post

My bad... I suspect, when people see the final (full) product, as it's suppose to be seen (3D), opinions may be somewhat more +ve...

From the way you're talking about it based on just the trailer and your love for James Cameron, it seems some people have already decided it will be amazing.

Errrr... Actually no... I've spoken to (& read) people who have seen the 15mins at the cinema, and generally their opinion is that the 15 mins in true 3D gives a better impression than a couple of minutes viewed on a monitor at home...

TBH, I'm not expecting much. It's been a long time since Cameron has been in the director's chair, and add to this loads of new technology, I suspect the film will be somewhat flawed. But as long as enough of the Cameron magic is in there, it should still be an enjoyable watch.
