January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Chelsea have denied reports they have opened talks with midfielder Frank Lampard over an extension to his contract.

The 34-year-old's current deal is up at the end of the season with his time at Stamford Bridge seemingly drawing to a close.

He has been in impressive form recently though, with the club's hierarchy understood to be considering opening talks on a new contract.

But Chelsea insist chief executive Ron Gourlay was misquoted at a press conference in Bangkok when asked about Lampard's future at the club.

There are numerous reports that SAF is sick of the constant fitness issues with Rooney and he will be put up for sale this summer (which might explain the constant reports of Utd still being interested in a certain Polish striker currently playing in Germany)

Of course all these reports are based on facts (like WR's visit to Las Vegas pre-Euro 2012 and so forth) with a lot of guesswork inbetween , and comparing how Ronaldo and Messi forego a lot of the social life that the ex-Evertonian still seeks out on occasion (and therefore affects his weight/fitness)

I personally think SAF isnt contemplating anything like selling Wayne yet, but possibly that leaving him out on Tuesday (from the starting XI) was a guided message to see how he performs for the rest of the season.

The stuff about Rooney, I'll quote what I said on Jan 11th :)

For my lot I feel Rooney will be moving on sooner rather than later. Ferguson has come out on three separate occasions this season saying he's unfit, and with his new golden boy in RVP I can see him being comfortable in letting him go. Its not like he has a track record of holding a grudge Ince, Stam, Beckham, Keane etc and letting you go when he feels he’s got what he can out of them

Rooney himself said he was 7 pounds overweight in September, when he should be at his peak. He's 28 next and its only going to get harder for him to stay fit.

"Then I remember – I drank a few bevvies while I was away. I'm stocky. I'm not like Ryan Giggs, all bone and lean muscle. But I gain weight quite easily. It's not a problem though. It's not as if the manager is leaning over my shoulder as the numbers come in, tutting and making jokes about me eating too many chip butties."

I know that it been touted that he will drop into midfield but he doesn’t have the awareness for that position. When you watch a Scholes he makes lots of 5-10 yard passes, when you take in in context he always wants the ball, if he’s got people around him he lays it off, Rooney likes to take a touch and turns into danger more often than not. It’s ok against teams who defend deep he finds space but in the premier league with the likes of Fellani and Dembele ready to steam roller you its a different kettle of fish.

I see an undisclosed transfer fee, probably around £20-£23m, to PSG possibly, touted as soon as we're out of the champions league.

I'd rather lose Van Persie tbh if I had to lose one of them. Van Persie is so hot and cold, he either scores or he is completely anonymous in the game. He was pretty damn poor in both Madrid games against an inexperienced defender and another defender who is widely criticized anyway.

Certain Polish striker in Germany, ex-Evertonian

You know you can just write their names right? :p

I just think he looks exhausted. I've seen him miscontrol quite a few passes lately, and even when he's having a bad game, he doesn't do that often.

I think van Persie is just exhausted as well. I hope so anyway. :p

I don't know how I'd feel about Rooney leaving. Replacing him wouldn't be impossible but then again, how many strikers are there that work as hard as him and can drop back and defend, etc.

Something has been off about the whole Rooney situation for quite a long time now, but I don't know what it is. :(

I don't think building a team entirely around van Persie is smart due to his age and the fact his past injury problems are still a concern (albeit a distant one at present).

I was there on Tuesday and RVP played well, that young french CB who has been gettin all sorts of praise, who also hasnt given Messi a touch in the last two classicos, stuggled to get the ball off him, and when youre playing up front on your own for half an hour when your teams down to 10-men, against Real Madrid, what can we expect?

He's scored 23 goals this season, 9 more than Rooney and has had only one less assist , If thats hot and cold I'll take luke warm any day.

I know I'll get lampooned, but for me "hes getting on a plane, he's coming back from Spain".

RVP with Ronaldo just behind.... a few goals there.

Fergie doesn't like his Scouse accent ;)

He thinks he's being clever leave him alone

On the Rooney subject he's not going anywhere, the idea we'd replace a 27 year old with a 29 with an iffy fitness record is ridiculous, all that's happened since RVP signed is we're no longer over reliant on Rooney and against Madrid (because we now have RVP) it was in the teams best interests that Rooney started on the bench rather than trying to shoehorn him into a position where someone else would have been able to do a better job.

Not beyond the realms that his patiance has finally gone though is it? Fergie does like getting rid of his favourites & Rooney's fitness does seem to be lacking, ever since he 'won' and got his huge contract.

I could see him selling Rooney to RM and getting Falcao or Cavani in, which would be terrible as they are better strikers (imo)

The thing is though, whenever he wasnt playing up front as the main man previously, Rooney would be put on the left, right or drop off the main stiker, the Champions League finals in 2009 and 2011 are the perfect examples, we went for Ronaldo through the middle with Rooney on the right in 2009 and in 2011 Hernandez was up front with Rooney on the left. On tuesday Ferguson played RVP, Welbeck, Giggs and Nani all in front of Rooney, in positions Rooney has been comfortable in.

And Rooney seems to have couple of ankle and thigh knocks a season, so hes not exactly injury free.

**I've just looked it up in the last 3 seasons in all competitions Van Persie played 7 more games than Rooney and scored 18 more goals.**

No idea whether there's any truth in the stories but regardless, I can't see him leaving. I can't see anybody that's capable of paying the sort of fee Utd would want, being willing to pay it on Rooney.
