January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

We desperately need a new left back, Santos is beyond terrible and Gibbs is a crock. We also need a midfielder who can actually defend, it hurts watching Arteta be shoehorned into that position and as good as Arteta is, he is MUCH better further up the pitch providing passes in dangerous areas and taking pot shots from the edge of the area, his creativity is absolutely ruined by being played so far back. I hope Wenger doesn't see Diaby as the man to do the most defensive work in midfield because A. he's crap and B. he's perma-injured. A new right winger wouldn't go amiss either, or just start Arshavin more.

Literally no idea why we gave Rosicky a new contract, we could have spent that money on a midfielder that will actually play games. :(

Anyone in particular you would like to see come in Kill?

Do you think the midfield needs trimming at Arsenal?

I honestly think any mildly physical midfielder would be fine, not sure why that much talked about transfer of M'Vila never happened, he seems like just the kind of player we need. Midfield definitely needs trimming, Diaby and Rosicky can go for a start, Denilson is still hanging around, we've got plenty of young midfielders and a bit of quality in Wilshere, Arteta and Cazorla, I think we just need a destroyer or at least someone who will be responsible when the rest of the team are piling forward. Arteta copes in the role admirably, but I feel like it's a massive waste of his talent.

I can see Chelsea/City make a move for Falcao, there's no way A.Madrid are selling him to Barca/Real.

He'll go for nothing less than £50M, he's been on fire this year.

I'm not a huge Walcott fan but for all the **** he gets, he chips in with his fair share of goals and if he were willing to join, he could prove a bargain given his contract situation.

Didn't you say the same about Cole, how did that turn out :p

I will get slated for this....

Walcott would be great at spurs behind Ade.

Get in 1 of Moutinho/Willian

Maybe some wing cover and I would be happy.

Dont need anything in defence imo, once BAE and Kaboul are fit again we will be a force at the back if AVB drops Friedel.

It is, and it isn't, ultimately having 3 great midfielders who can defend or attack only improves your attack. Arteta isn't being wasted because in large part, Santi and Wilshire are better offensively than Arteta. Don't forget that Denilson looked like a pretty good passer and attacker until he spent 3 years playing defensively, the offensive side of his game got no practice basically, he learned to play differently. Arteta was playing that somewhat DM role at Everton for 2 years, and at Arsenal for over a year, its more what he is now than a really good attacking player, even at his best, he's not as good as Wilshire or Santi so its a bit of a waste to push him back into that role. Though, Arteta played wide for Everton plenty iirc, he may make a good player to play wide. A 4-4-2 with Arshavin one side, Arteta the other, Santi/Wilshire in the middle, the latter had a brilliant season at DM before his injury but still picked out the forward passes and got our attack moving forward fast, something Arteta is doing less and less. Podolski/Giroud and Chamakh/Bendtner would all do better in a 4-4-2, and with Arteta on the wing you have someone who would help defensively a lot, and Arshavin's work rate is vastly under rated, especially when Gervinho/Walcott offer nothing at all and Arshavin tries pretty hard.

I think a 4-4-2 would suit out squad better for most positions but needs better full backs either side to do so.

What I want to know is, are Arsenal still subsidising Denilson's wage, I don't really care if he's on the books, if his wage is covered, though we probably still have to pay him in the off season when the loan is ended :( I can't remember when his contract is up either, hopefully not long now.

Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Djourou, Squillaci, Chamakh, Bendtner, Santos, Gervinho, Walcott, Arshavin need to go... this is a "Wenger in charge" list of players that need to go because they either suck, are injured all the time or Wenger simply will not play them so its a waste having them.

Wenger wants desparately to keep Walcott, Djourou, Diaby, Rosicky, Gervinho.... at which point you realise as I've said all along, the problem is Wenger.

With a new manager giving players a chance I'd like to see Bendtner and Arshavin stay, the rest go... Chamakh.... if he got a one year extension I'd actually like to give him a chance. Don't forget he was very effective in his first 6 months, and essentially since then has never been given a single real chance. But I can't forget how effective he was, and how he played for 75 mins of that Reading game, absolute gash in the first 45, but the signs of his interplay, work rate, ability to pass in an attacking sense and make runs to trouble the defence(not with the ball, in terms of dragging CB's around to make room for others). Ultimately I'm not sure he's good enough but feel more than most in the list he's been absolutely screwed by Wenger and I'd like to give him a chance. A year extension and play all cup games, more sub appearances and several starts.

Newcastle need a CB, FB and a left winger (expect Guti to play more central now) we seriously need reinforcements! :p

We don't need a CB. We are a very weak club as it is. Colo and Taylor are quality and we can't afford to have another quality CB sitting on the bench so Willo will have to do.

We desperately need a right back though. We also need a left winger, and to drop Guti as he has been terrible all season...

Didn't you say the same about Cole, how did that turn out :p

Not quite. I was content with his signing, hoping he couldn't be worse than Benayoun and given the way Benayoun's gone since leaving, he possibly wasn't. I did moan all summer that the decision to sign him was made by the managing director rather than the manager though.

I wonder if we'll finally get a central midfielder, or perhaps a defender on loan if things don't improve in that area.

I can't see anything happening really.

About sums it up, he needs to go as he is doing nothing for us anymore. We are showing no signs of growth, just have a lot of below avergae players on the books that he insists on perservering with :(

Difference was Tottenham were showing signs of growth (can't remember them finishing in the top 4 for years), just not enough to warrant having all these players around.

Realistically in terms of league position Arsenal shouldn't be showing signs of growth though; MC have moved into the big 3 now and Arsenal should not be competing with those teams. What they need to be (and have been) doing is trying to qualify for the CL to keep things afloat... even if they improved the team that wouldn't necessarily guarantee success due to the resources that the big 3 have available. Arsenal by and large in recent years have not fallen slightly short, they have have been way short of the winners in terms of points and even if they were to bring in players of the quality that have left (i.e. Fabregas and RVP Mk.II) that STILL wouldn't be enough compared to the MC behemoth.

Some may remember my "heads in the sand" speech when Vieira was sold, the difference is that at that time Arsenal were still in command of their own destiny to some extent, the right moves in the transfer market (and I'm talking outs as well as ins) could have seen them staying competitive for longer, but times have moved on and the opportunity has passed. Arsenal are now something akin to what Chelsea were prior to RA's arrival; a club that can't compete with the big boys and needs to chip around looking for CL qualification and cup success, until a big financial backer arrives or a catastrophe strikes the top clubs.

True we certainly had growth, but should have had much more, realistically we should have been 3rd, home and hosed well before end of the season last year and Redknapp collapsed the year before as well. OK its not the same atall....just more annoyance by fans at the manager!

Collapsing from a strong position once isn't a big deal, every team does it, Barca somewhat did it last year, Real did it at the beginning of this season, it happens. It would take Redknapp to sell all the best players, give new MUCH worse players 50% higher wages, and flop for 8 years to be where Arsenal are. In other words, if you kept Redknapp for a further 8 years and he repeated last season year after year, with a wage bill that doubles over that 8 years, maybe, just maybe Arsenal fans could say "Welcome to how Arsenal fans have felt" ;)

Bad seasons happen, systemic failure on every level is something Spurs never remotely had under Redknapp. I really don't know why most Arsenal fans can't see, it we went from selling a Overmars to buy a Pires, to forcing out Pires to give Hleb games. We let Gilberto and Flamini walk to let Denilson/Diaby get first team games, even though both were clear as day not in the same league as the two who left, neither wanted crazy wages, just a contract and to not be treated like ****, same as Pires and Reyes who both left because they were treated like ****, all to favour Hleb, Song, Diaby, Denilson, just inept players. Arshavin's been treated worse than most, and in favour of Walcott and Gervinho, players who can barely play football.

Till Wenger goes we'll do nothing, and the longer it takes for him to go, the worse the squad the next manager will inherit will have.
