January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

That just doesn't make sense, if a player who's twenty-nine can get a four year deal.

What doesn't make sense? Vidic signed his last contract in 2010 when he was 28 and it takes him through till the end of next season when he'll be 32 from then on he'll be given 1 year extensions.

Its not that it doesnt make sense. it just doesnt.. you know.. make sense...

For instance you could offer a 29 yo a 4 year deal meaning they have a guaranteed contract in their thirties until they are 33...

However another player's contract could run out when they are 30 and thus they could only ever get 1 year extensions...(if the rule was a rule and not just a meaning). So then you have 2 players who are the same age over 30. one has 3 years job security the other can and will only ever from now on get 1 year rolling...Which, if you are trying to protect the club financially from contracts for over 30 year olds means that...well the rule doesnt really work.

I suppose the question is, does anyone care?

I stopped reading here because it's a situation the club very rarely get themselves into, in fact it's happened once..... with Berbatov who didn't figure in the first team plans anyway

Coudl also run out at 31 but thats arbitary. At the end of the day its a hypothetical but it has happened and will continue to do so.

For me, having a 28-30 year old a long contract is a pay off. its good will. Thanks for never leaving us Giggsy, here have a 5 year contract now go forth and multiply.

And he did.

Well we wouldn't give him a 2 year deal, we'd give him a 1 year contract like we do all our players over 30, I doubt we'd pay him massive wages either (he'd probably be put on a parity with what Scholes and Giggs are earning atm). If he agreed to those terms (and lets face it why wouldn't he) then I do think it's a no-brainer

I expect he would agree to either a short contract or a wage cut, not both.

Ive heard about a 9.5m transfer for wesley sneijder this january for Man utd.

Given the 30 million people were talking up a season or so ago, the fall in price is pretty redicolous really. But i think its good value and would definitely want him snapped up at that kind of price.

Forgetting the reasonable sounding transfer fee, Sneijder would want a massive wage in all likelihood, unless he's taking a significant pay cut.

If he would take a pay cut, I'd happily take him. I'd be pretty shocked if it happened though, really doubt it.

Less than £150k a week you reckon? I can't see him taking a pay cut to join us if one of the reasons for leaving Inter is that they want him to take a pay cut. :D

Still if we can get him for no more than £12-14m and on a reasonable wage then he'd be very good for us with him being 28.

It'd have to be well under £150k I'd think. If I remember rightly, we know that SAF rates him so there's always a slight chance of a deal being done but I'd say it's more likely that PSG or someone will come in and snap him up. They've got money to burn and he would probably significantly improve their team.
