Japanese Grand Prix 2013, Suzuka - Race 15/19

Deuse will state whatever he likes and say it as fact, have you not learned that yet mate :) Blocking ftw

Tbh I pretty much avoid this place for F1 these days and any forum discussion of a 'passionate nature'. It's taken me a while, about 10 years to realise it's never a discussion just two or more people saying their piece with no intent of changing their view.

I mean how often have you seen someone say they have taken the points on board and changed their view, never. :D

Enjoy the win bonuses again, you must own half of Milton keynes by now ;)
I'd settle for a case of Silver and Red as compo for the boring season :p

That's not true at all, BAR got banned because they had the ability to cheat, not because they got caught cheating. They could prove that at no time they ran under weight but that wasn't the agenda.

For some reason despite other teams doing the exact same thing, they singled out BAR...

So they created a well hidden way to cheat but never used it? Course bit like Benetton saying they never accessed the launch control section LOL.

What other teams done the same thing?

Nothing wrong with cheating (or exploiting grey areas) in F1 - until you get caught and are asked to make modifications to your car. Many teams have done this in the past and done well from it. This is part of F1. Always has. Always will.

One thing that Gary Anderson stated last week on the BBC was that if all teams stuck rigidly to the rule book, their cars would be slower than the Marussia team. And that, as a designer you must look for the grey areas, to gain an advantage over rival teams.

I think that summed it up pretty well.

Not sure you can blame Ferrari, had Kimi not hit the wall after taking the lead at Spa things would have been different and they would not of had to back Massa. You said it yourself, crashing into Sutil is not Ferrari's fault :)

I guess.

However in Monaco it was Ferrari's fault that he back there, as he had to serve a penalty due to the team not leaving the grid soon enough.

At the GB GP, they pitted him for for inters when the rain actually got worse. Think he was queued behind Massa here.

As you say they later backed Massa, which saw Kimi queue behind him in Singapore, we all know what happened at that pit stop.

He gave up two wins to Massa that season plus a second place too.

Still I haven't re-freshed my mind on Hamilton's 2008 no doubt McLaren did there best to mess up his races through bad strategy.

Was a fun season. :D

Red Bull looked as strong as we all expected again this morning. Let's hope for a good race behind Vettel if he does indeed stroll off again.

I'd really like Webber to win one more race - is RBR racing sentimental enough to allow that? They're certainly quick enough to engineer it.

Di Resta-as I said they check the weight
Sauber-FIA have a template and because of manufacturing error on the radios. Again a normal check it was a factory fault
not a team trying to break or push the rules.

Honda was not banned for having a second tank they was banned for being under weight
"BAR had deliberately broken rules by using fuel as ballast to allow the car to run light during the race"

As I said weight\fuel are normal checks but checking the ride height is not.
And the only time a team did get caught out on ride height in parc ferme was rb in Canada but nothing happened!

So what is the difference between a 'normal' check an scrutineering?

Don't they do all the flex wing tests and measure all the cars bodywork etc?

Yep. All teams wings are subject to flex tests on Thursdays, plus other standard tests and any other tests the scrutineers decide to perform from the remit they have to test everything and anything possible.

The suggestion that Formula 1 races are conducted without ay scrutineering or checking of legality is utterly nonsensical.

Was it the 2011 season where Vettel had a 'gearbox' problem at Sao Paulo and let Webber through to win the race so it may well be possible :p

Vettel could win the title here. If not I would be very surprised if he didn't do it without at least 1 race in hand. So they could let Webber win.

But, its not like Webber has been following Vettel home every race, so unless all the other teams are also going to let him win, it might be quite difficult :p

I saw somebody on Twitter referring to something unusual temperature-wise on the RB "tea-tray" that they'd seen through the FOM thermal cameras, could be related and RB are exploiting that area massively?

Do like suzuka and I am also hoping for a good race behind Vettel

Last race was really enjoyable if you don't have blind Vettel hatred/rage/irrational feelings

RG podium would be lovely

Really hoping lotus can sneak a trophy in the wcc!

I thought that motor racing was all about racing for the win....all the people saying ignore Vettel and look at the rest of the grid, what's the point? They're fighting for 2nd place, big woop! It's just admitting they may as well not be there :p

It's not like there is amazing racing happening behind Vettel, all the interesting events are caused by things like someone not putting a wheel on properly or the tyre delaminating.

Sure there are some good moments, of course there are, some great overtakes and some close racing, but enough to make people want to watch the whole race? Not anymore. I'll only watch the highlights now as 90% of the races consist of nothing more than a parade or a clumsy driver taking someone out. A fair few mates are also in the same boat, no point watching the whole race as most of it is dross.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love F1 but to call it the pinnacle of Motorsport is derogatory towards the rest of Motorsport. Cars being told to slow down to save tyres? I mean come on!

I know that the responses will be that I don't know what I'm talking about and that F1 is all about development and bending the rules. That may be the case but if you bend a rule, people complain and the FIA change the rule to outlaw it for the next race.

I really hope that next season the engine shake-up will help but to be honest I doubt it. Bring back refuelling, bring back decent tyres and bring back the mental cars.....it's just a shame that the push towards being "eco" has had such a detrimental effect on the racing and the sport in general.

And breathe! rant over! :D

I'm trying to think what race it was so I can look for a video but I did see the same thing.
