I think we need to move away from the word cheating. Bearing in mind that none of us actually knows that Ferrari have done anything untoward.
The rules are and have always been open to interpretation by some of the best, brightest and most likely, highly payed engineers on this planet, and its their job to look for loop holes, grey areas and technical wording to exploit, for me it has always been one of the most fascinating nuances of F1.

So if Ferrari did have a technical ERS advantage early season, which has now been lost/negated, due to having to remove or other teams catching up. Then hats off too them, its all part of the sport. Unfortunately for them they didnt capitalise on it whilst they had that advantage, for numerous reasons both driver/team, and strategy related.

Well it must have been illegal or they would have kept their pace after the sensor installation. Nothing else will happen since you can't retrospectively prove it. It is the nature of F1, Mercedes have done it plenty of times - their trick suspension for example.

You mean the suspension other teams had, other than Ferrari :D:D

I think it will be very close race.

Strange that Sky F1 reported this morning that Charlie Whiting was asked about the second sensor but he stated no sensor has been fitted, and there is no second investigation. The first one catagorically proved Ferrari were doing nothing wrong.
Plus Ferrari had the highest top speed in second practice.
Does not everyone think that if Ferrari had a sudden slump in top speed when a 'sensor' was fitted anyway that it would be stupidly obvious. Like f1 engineers are dumb enough to make it that obvious?

It's not a top speed advantage. It's additional KERS power which avoid the early de-rate which happens after a couple of seconds when going down a long straight. The vMax is still the same. This is why Mercedes noticed it on the exit of La Source and the run to Les Combes; the Ferraris were still pulling strong after Raidillon.

From what I understand, the Ferrari system dumps energy from the MGU-H straight to the turbo via the MGU-K without going through the battery store (and hence subverting the 4Mj limit). While not technically illegal, it seems from reading between the lines, that the FIA contacted Ferrari and told them that while this wasn't illegal it wasn't 'in the spirit of the rules' and to stop it. Similar to what they did with Renault's mass damper in the mid 00's.

On the other hand, Ferrari's claims of Mercedes trick suspension/braking system which is working as a rear wheel steering system - assuming it even exists - is entirely within the rules. Hence why there's no investigation of it.

Morning. :D

That side on shot of Vettel's Ferrari spinning showed that the Ferrari power unit is still smoking.

I have to admit, hadn't seen that since their performance dropped, made me wonder if they were forced to change something.
