Jeans - Branded vs cheap

How are you guys wearing out the crotch on jeans seriously?

I cycled about a thousand miles in the same primark jeans the arse has a slight wear mark in a V shape from sitting on the seat with a sweaty ass in the hot summer months but apart from that they are fine.

well if you don't count the bobbles from where the jeans have stretched a bit to much with me cycling in them

I think they were like £18

Big thighs which rub together.

These jeans are quite old and now only wear them round the house or if doing DYI etc...

These jeans are a few months old and starting to wear in the inner thigh already :(

It's just one of those things doesn't bother me - I just hate buying jeans as they're all skinny jeans :( Even non skinny ones are skinny :p

Same problem I have. Except I manage to rip them, rather than them wear out in the groin area.

One thing nobody has mentioned is that Levi's jeans sold in the USA are quite different to those sold in Europe. They're made in Mexico and are much flimsier than ours. Single row stitching compared to double row and they don't wear anywhere near as well. I bought a pair and they wore out very quickly so yes, they're cheaper but for a reason.

I agree with what people are saying, find a style which fits and is comfortable and stick with them. For me that happens to be 501s (see my earlier picture) but I've also got one pair of Primark jeans which are almost as good a fit. I've tried on a number of different pairs in Primark, all the same style and size but none of them have fitted as well so I must have just got lucky with that one pair.

For the rare occasion I put on a pair of jeans I find the Next ones fit me well and at around the £25 mark aren't pricey.

The most I've ever spent on a pair of jeans was £90 although they are Kevlar lined for on the bike and they were well worth the money lovely and comfy to ride in.

the next time your in primark lay a pair of jeans on the floor.
now take others the exact same size and lay them on top.

they are not all the same size some are half an inch wider in the leg etc ;) so they are pretty much a .5 size larger

is there any websites where you can send an old pair of jeans and they will make a new pair the exact same size?

First off, £80 for Levis? I think you are being stung there.

On the topic of the question however, I'd say go branded. Jeans are durable and last a long time. You'll get plenty of wear out of them and if you prefer branded why not.

Big thighs and wearing down / tearing the inner thighs of jeans is a big problem here too. Skinny-type stuff seem prevelant at the moment, and they never fit either. Modern jeans are annoying.

I get this problem sometimes.

I buy expensive jeans.

yea I hate the modern fit on jeans

always so tight around my lower leg and crotch.... I usually go for a 38 even though a 36 waste fits me fine just the rest of the jeans shape is crap and tight but doing this means the jeans have to much ass....

That's the thing I have a 32" waist, but I can't get any trousers past my knees - and then buying more expensive jeans which only just about fit narks me off no end. Best thing to do is buy slightly big jeans and get them brought in around the waist, or buy custom made jeans.

Trousers are just as bad.

I'm around a 34" waist at the minute, yet I had to buy 38" trousers for work the other day to fit my shapely glutes and quads in without getting arrested for indecent exposure.

I'm not one for spending much on clothes anyway, unless it's truly practical (like outdoor wear) but for jeans I go to GAP outlet. they're around £15-£25 a pair. They have 5 or so clear 'cuts' to choose from and loads of waist / leg combos. never had a hard time buying jeans there and I can pile the discounts on as I work close to the outlet. not sure why anyone would need to go anywhere else - choose your cut, choose your size, choose your colour - it's like subway for jeans!

that being said, I wouldn't buy supermarket jeans as they all seem to have a naff cut and weird fit. but I certainly wouldn't venture to a highstreet shop like next, top man or levis etc as it's just a rip off as far as I can see.

[edit] and GAP jeans are actually pretty nice too :) [/edit]

Which is why I tend to go with straight fitting styles like 501. If I try slimmer jeans I have to size up to fit the legs and end up with several inches to spare around the waist. Modern styles are built for skinny emos.

The problem i find with Jeans is that nealy all the ones I buy always stretch around the waist, so they become loose, using a belt just folds them and you get an odd shape around your body! Anyone else get this?

Apparently you should size down and allow for stretching, but a size down is just too small and tight round the thighs and legs. I wear slim tapers, but I'm wondering if expensive jeans is better in that regards, i have never spent above £40 on jeans, and all my current ones are from Burton as they have nice fittings. Might try River Island as they have some nice washes, Gap jeans are nice but there slims ones sit at the hips, any bending and everyone will see your thong.

Reading this thread has made me realise that I'm spending serious money on jeans. My favourite jeans are Diesel Safado which average £100 a pair and I own 5 pairs. My most recent was a pair of Diesel DNA Thavar Slim that was £250 but due to a pricing mistake I got them for £150.

I must have spent close to £1k on jeans in the past 12 months. But everyone here seems to trying to spend the bare minimum... I can't the only one buying expensive jeans.

Yes. Yes you probably are :)

I wear anything that fits and is comfortable and not too expensive. Clothes, to me, are a necessary item but as long as they are comfortable and functional I am happy.

Will a £250 pair of jeans do a better or worse job for me than a £15 pair from Primani? They may do a better job - but is it £235 better? Doubtful :)

As with most clothes - you pay a premium for the branding. At the end of the day most clothes on the market are made by child slaves in China and India and even if I could afford it I would never spend more than £30-£40 on a pair of jeans.

For those of you with the thigh rubbing problem :o

..i had that problem and managed to get a few pairs of Levi's 511 commuter jeans in the states. They're quite tough to find over here but they're awesome. Made for cyclists so the crotch is reinforced. Feels solid there. They fit like 511s but with a bit more elastane which for me was perfect as 511s (non commuter) were too slim and i always preferred the 514s. Defo worth the money if you can get hold of some.

Spending that much money is fine if the jeans fit perfect and wear long, like last few years, otherwise I see no point, which is why I buy cheap, but then maybe because there cheap they dont last, but the £100 Levis for example have never stood out for me, they dont look or feel different to a £30 one.

I'm too poor to afford nice jeans anymore (because kids) but I bought proper brand names rather than Diesel. Stuff like 5EP, Sugar Cane, Kicking Mule Workshop, Crate and on the lower end APC and Nudie, but I too suffer from the rubbing of thighs.

I found Gustin through kickstarter and they seem very to offer good cuts and varied range of briliiant denim at great prices.
