Jeff Stelling and Souness leaving Sky

Is that show still popular? Since streaming has become mainstream. I find myself purely watching the football and ignoring the opinions and commentary available from fans and pundits etc.

I see clips on tiktok from CBS's CL coverage and that's more light entertainment than punditry a much better direction to go in imo. As player insights are usually poor.

Grew up on it in my teens but hasn't had any relevancy for me for more than a decade.

I wonder if Soccer Saturday may itself be on the way out. used to be glued to sky sports news and soccer Saturday Saturday as that was on a free channel while the games were on a premium channel.

Havent watched either in a long while have they done anything to rejuvenate the program in light streaming and news being instant elsewhere YouTube etc?

I think it will be the end of Soccer Saturday yeah, Stelling has been there since the very first season of the Premier League. The show itself hasnt been as good for a number of years now, mostly down to the newer pundits simply lacking character, all very robotic and dull in their presentation.

I think now that Stelling, Shreeves and Merson are all going, along with those who have already gone previously, any character or charisma on the panel is now gone. I wouldnt be surprised if the show, in its current format, gets completely scrapped and replaced with something a little more "flashy" for the new generation. Sort of in the same way that Miami Vice was heralded as a "cop show for the MTV generation" :) , the new Soccer Saturday will be football for the tiktok generation

Lads talking a load of nonsense while being entertaining torch seems to have been passed over to YouTube’s for a while now. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Sky tries something different.

Should be well worth watching it on Stellings final show om 28th May, no doubt they will do a look back at all the best bits from over the decades.

Funny you mention that, I’ve much preferred BT Sport Score even though I’m not a fan of Robbie Savage.

Or that the Premier league are starting their own streaming service and want these boys.....
When are the next licences up? I'm guessing the Premier League couldnt start up showing live matches while other channels still own the exclusive rights to show those matches as per the last set of rights bidding
