Jeff Stelling and Souness leaving Sky

I don’t like it I’m afraid, their replacements are guaranteed to be awful.
They cant win though can they Rob. Search your name and Souness and you **** him off all the time. He goes and youre commenting that you dont like it?

IF they go and replace them with rent a gobs from and make it like AFTV/Goldbridge then fair but we dont know that yet. I personally dont think they will.

I’m going from the soccer Saturday example.

Morrison, Smith, Dawson and Hendrie are awful. Not a patch on Thompson, Le Tiss and Nicholas

Is that show still popular? Since streaming has become mainstream. I find myself purely watching the football and ignoring the opinions and commentary available from fans and pundits etc.

I see clips on tiktok from CBS's CL coverage and that's more light entertainment than punditry a much better direction to go in imo. As player insights are usually poor.

Grew up on it in my teens but hasn't had any relevancy for me for more than a decade.

I was reading this completely agreeing with you then it dawned on me that Roy Keane is absolute box office when he‘s raging.

Or that the Premier league are starting their own streaming service and want these boys.....
I don't care how they do it, but please for the love of god can we *finally* get the English Premier League available to watch in England...like, every game.

In Hong Kong I had SIX premier League channels and every single game live. It's absolutely mental we don't have it at home.

I can't see that happening, at least for 3pm Saturday games. It would require all the clubs in the football league, or at least a majority, to vote for this. I doubt that will ever happen.

It is strange though that so many games aren't shown though, I agree.

At least there's a reason for those games....even just getting every other game would be progress.

Aside from anything else, they are just pushing people to find alternative means of watching. Bloody dumb.

I actually think its inevitable. The EFL are already in discussions to start allowing televised 3pm Saturday matches. Once that happens I think its only then a matter of time before some method is looked to facilitate Premier League saturday games. This Saturday of course the 3pm Saturday Man City match is being televised , reasoning being that there are no EFL games on at the same time.

I suspect what will happen in the long run is that the Premier League matches and EFL matches will be juggled in some fashion so that they dont clash on a Saturday and that will then allow both sets of matches to be televised. There's simply too much money involved in televised football for it not to eventually happen IMO.

But without genuine competition where more than one company has access to "all" the televised games, it will be us the viewers who will be ripped off again. Pay Sky, pay BT sport, then pay another company for the saturday 3pm games.. probably even more than one, or even pay per game..

Yup, it isnt going to come cheap, cheaper than going to all the games of course but still not cheap.

I wonder if Soccer Saturday may itself be on the way out. used to be glued to sky sports news and soccer Saturday Saturday as that was on a free channel while the games were on a premium channel.

Havent watched either in a long while have they done anything to rejuvenate the program in light streaming and news being instant elsewhere YouTube etc?
There's probably licensing implications or something but really what they need to do is introduce near realtime highlights from the games. In traditional guise all it is really is the equivalent of a radio show from 30+ years ago where they jump around the grounds reporting on incidents but where you can see some pundits visually and have a ticker updating the scores etc (the latter of which is irrelevant now with the internet).

Another route they could take it is making it more fan-centric, like instead of traditional pundits you have a panel of [wannabe] youtubers getting emotionally invested in a selection of the games. I think you'd need to have them be regulars on the show however to start building up a bit of a relationship, banter etc.

These types of show obviously must still be popular however because BT Sport has one, BBC have Final Score etc. I've never particularly been a fan but that said if I was sat in a room with nothing else to do (say in a an airport or waiting room or whatever) I would watch it.

Souness showed a softer side on his last episode, although I know a lot of it is for TV. I was always a bit indifferent to him but his hatred of Pogba made me warm to him a bit more.

I've preferred BT Score on BT Sport for months now anyway. They look at Scottish games as well is any major European matches too and they have some good banter between them all.

I find myself just watching Youtube highlights of Premier league games and European games these days.

The only games I've watched this season have been Ipswich games on iFollow, World Cup games and the odd FA Cup game on terrestrial TV.
