It’s a very poor country, people live in shanty towns, good education comes at a price, job prospects are very poor. They need to survive so they turn to crime. The place has criminal organisations so yes it can be very dangerous.

It isn't a poor country - just very uneven distribution of wealth.
 
When I was in Brazil for a few months I found it pretty safe - it really depends where you go.

I did have a gun pulled on me and my girlfriend... at about 2am in a park..probably wasnt the best idea for just the 2 of us to go there...

I'm just glad no one was hurt. Thumbs up for McLaren for providing good protection for their high profile drivers !
