Jenson Button to partner Fernando Alonso in 2013?

I honestly can't see the top teams changing much in the next year or so. Di Resta to Merc and more than likely Perez to Farrari. I think Button will have a better standing in Mclaren. When do the new regs come in 2013?

I think that is when we will start to see change within the top teams, (well you will if you have sky sports anyway :p :( )

Bianchi or Perez will be at Ferrari :)

Joe Saward posted today that Ferrari has the option on Kubica, but the accident has made them walk away from the deal.

mcLaren are well recognised as the team most able to introduce changes throughout the season. i doubt anyone would disagree. if they can make a really good car and keep that up then it's possible they could dominate a season like Vettel is now.

McLaren have long been a team for not using team orders with the expectation that once the title becomes unwinnable or highly unlikely for either driver then he will support the other one. i highly doubt they'll change that and I also doubt that Lewis or Jenson would appreciate playing second fiddle. Look at the disastrous season they had with Kovaleinen driving for them.

Kovi helped Lewis to his title? moving over countless times so not sure how you qualify that as a disaster? Yes it's possible McLaren can make a really great car that dominates, but not that likely considering they have not won a constructors title since what 1998? They are just as likely to create a stinker of a car :)

Red Bull have out developed McLaren, so I am not so sure how you can say McLaren are the best at it lol

Granted, he's in a good car, which is my point. Ferrari has been very hit an miss this season but Alonso still manages to squeeze decent results from it, but Massa doesn't? Plus the whole Lewis being behind Jenson this season thing is purely down to some pathetic overtakes and some frankly terrible luck. If it werent for so many DNFs he'd be ahead of him on the drivers table. Oh, I'm more of a Button fan too so not just another fanboy from Hamiltons side singing his praises :p

So I guess you are forgetting JB's "bad luck" in England and Germany - not to mention the quali in 13 where he raced to a podium position on Sunday (all the team's doing - compared to Lewis making most of his "bad luck" himself)

But being serious, if what your saying was true.... why is Button on a 1 year contract?

.

I would advise you to get YOUR facts right - JB ISNT on a 1 year contract!!!

McLaren have an option of EXTENDING JB's current contract by a year (which is obviously what they are trying to do, but also have a few years on top) - not the same thing at all to having "a one year contract" as you are suggesting.

Unlike Webber who is signing a fresh contract for each subsequant year - if McLaren ddint want JB for any longer they wouldnt need to negotiate anything as the same contract has been signed for the last two years or so (give or take a month)

Mclaren clearly want him on a long term deal, but don't want to pay him what JB thinks he's worth.

JB has parity with Hamilton right now. I would imagine if hamiltons new management team are worth more than £5 they will be telling mclaren they will only sign lewis on a new deal if he has preference on new bits etc.

JB has had a good year in relation to lewis but once mclaren get a better car it's pretty obvious on pace who would be the better bet for the future.

JB to Ferrari if it happened would end badly. Alonso would destroy him, if only because the team has been built around Alonso now and they love him. A scenario Hamilton should be trying harder to get at mclaren and I imagine will all be resolved in his next contract negotiations.

I think a lot of what or where JB goes is going to be resolved once Hamilton has sorted out his options.

Never understood the logic of why the same shared equipment would automatically benefit Lewis more than JB.

If the car improves relative to the other teams, both their points tallys will improve identically (especially if LH cuts out the silly mistakes during races)

Of course LH will be thought of as "the future" , he's 6 years younger, but he still chosses wrong options or is too forceful far too often

Just the same as DC and hakkinen, when they had average cars DC beat him. When they had a world beater DC couldn't live with hakkinen. The mistakes Lewis now makes he won't be making with the fastest car on the track, like Vettel. Yet JB still won't be able to match that raw pace of lewis and in the ultimate fastest car on the grid not being able to outqualify cars he should, would never have him overhaul lewis over a season.

He would have to hope he keeps making mistakes and in a better car I don't think that wouldn't happen.

I see it much more likely Hamilton will get no1 status, JB will get the hump and take webbers role at RB. Making a point and ending up in much the same scenario.

This is funny:

Jenson Button has hit back at Eddie Irvine after the former Ferrari driver this week criticised the McLaren star as "the best number two" in Formula One.

Hehehe.

I must say though. I think Button has raised his game further, this year and is now moving out of the No.2 category. His problem is that he lacks the flat speed expected of a No.1 driver. Also, I think it will take a very good No.1 driver to force Button into that No.2 position.

At present, in any team, Button would be No.2 when paired with Vettel, Hamilton or Alonso. Otherwise, he would be team-leader.

It's funny isn't it, people always assume faster = number 1 driver. Strategy involves having an intellectual capacity ...

So on that basis, if we're doing who's number 1 and who's number 2 you could argue that Lewis is the number 2 driver at Mclaren because he has a "number 2 brain" ...

That's certainly been the case so far this season anyway....

lol Irvine

Can't stand ex-drivers like him who keep popping up. There is a long interview with Niki Lauder in F1 Racing this month but just cba to read more of his bumpf.

Yes, Lewis is going through a bad patch, we know that.

I guarantee you that if you offered both Button and Hamilton to each team, but they could only choose one, they would go for Hamilton every time..

Well he's younger, so it'd make more sense.

What an absolute nipple he is. Did you see the post race Monza pit lane vid with Kravitz? He's a foul mouthed, ego-centric turd nugget.

Would be a great way for Button to end his career.

I agree with Sunama's post, McLaren just aren't going to win it any time soon - then again, I can't see anyone getting the jump on RBR until we have a major rule change again.
