jeremy clarkson v the mail and mirror

Well it seems of on have ruled the comment as racist.

Yet only 2 people complained, of the multiple millions of viewers. I am not trying to make light of his comments but taking context into consideration they were building a bridge over a river, the word slope is used in bridge over the river kwai and was an obvious reference so why is Clarksons comment so outrageous and the film not?

Listen to most rappers, in and out of music they call each other the n word, why is that acceptable?

Clarkson is controversial, no doubt. He's not racist though in my opinion. He's just one of those guys whose sense of humour seems to often cause outrage amongst the permanently offended brigade. I've always found him funny and never once been offended by anything he's ever said. In fact, the stuff that gets him into trouble is the stuff I often laugh at the most. People who don't like him will obviously be quick to point the finger and cry foul ! But I just don't pay any attention to them. If you don't like him, use your remote and change the channel.

oh deadly serious.... the tories are pathetic now.

No party is serious anymore... they are all utterly corrupt and useless, the only way to make them sit up and take note is to vote for muppets and MAYBE they will listen!

Lets face it democracy just isnt working... the current lot are utterly useless at everything, apart from lining their pockets.

Of course ocuk forums are tory party central so i expect ridicule...

This clarkson row is just making me vent... but its just another example of the utter gutless way people in the media and politics behave! its like they will say or do ANYTHING if they think it is popular!

Did thatcher care what others thought? did she hell!! she just did what needed to be done and sod popularity.

You should work for the BBC as a political editor as that ability to bring politics into a completely separate topic is golden!

Seriously though, I couldn't give a toss about jeremy clarkson or what he does. The man earns an absolute fortune out of the british public and hasn't really got a nice character to back it up either. His wife celebrated with a 4 week holiday with her best friend when she filed for divorce after like 2 decades married to the guy. Says enough for me.

As i usual tory voter i am now voting UKIP for no other reason than i am SICK AND TIRED or gutless wimps who run the country for the only reason being to line their pockets.

So you are concerned about the people lining their pockets and to protest you are going to vote for a party led by someone who had an interesting pre-politics career in the well noted and totally benevolent financial industry. How interesting.

JEREMY!!!

I thought the joke was a bit close to the bone for primetime TV, but just about reasonable. The reaction of the whole TG team - "Oh, we didn't know it was a racist term, honest" - makes me want to side with the two people that complained though. They knew what they were doing.

Speaking just for myself, I didn't even get the joke. I never knew the term "slope" even referred to asian people, let alone that it was derogatory. I can quite believe their plea of ignorance in this case.

According to Sky News it was "TWO VIEWERS" who complained

TWO *** VIEWERS?!?!

Wonder if they were OCUK members :D:D:D

I thought the slope comment was odd, as it didn't look much higher on the other side. Never registered that it might be crypto-racist.

I wasn't familiar with the term 'slope'as a derogatory or racial term however.

I genuinely had no idea about its connotations at the time. Ridiculous.

If they were working in Nigeria and said "It's getting dark" would there be an outcry as well? Idiots with nothing better to do complaining.

Same, I remember people used to say my garden was a bit sloped

Saying that though I wasn't familiar that "Jap" was racist the other day either, when it set FB on fire . I've always searched for Jap Anime and have no issues with Japanese people at all. Facebook even removed it lol. But kids being beaten up or someone's head smashed in is perfectly acceptable according to FB

and it was nip that was racist.

Jap is racist?!?

I guess Aussie is as well then! Along with Scot as well...

Yes!

Some people on an Adventure group on FB were playing a Japanese version of Police Quest. I commented that there was a nakid Jap girl in the locker unlike the english version, which of cause has an english woman.

Lots of insults and threats ensued ( Of which I ignored )

wait i thought jap was the equivalent of brit.

and it was nip that was racist.

I thought the same, but someone reported it and I was given a warning by Facebook.

Perhaps it's only a racist term in Japan or USA? :/

its not racist

most of its just short for where the person comes from

jap=Japanese
the n word=Nigeria
the p word=Pakistan
ozzy=australian

ect ect I don't see how it can be offensive im sure us brits get called most things, doesn't offend me in the slightest
